Nobody enters a marriage expecting it to one day come to an end, but at almost 50% of all marriages ending in divorce, it’s more common than people think.
The pandemic has impacted people in many ways—one of the most common is the strain on people’s relationships. Too much time together can often highlight areas that cause tensions, and sometimes those tensions can become too much for a couple to handle.
If you’re reading this post, it’s likely that you’re struggling in your marriage and are considering getting a divorce.
Here are some of the signs that may lead to impending divorce.
You’re only together for the sake of your children
If you’re a parent, you feel as though your biggest responsibility is to bring up your children in a happy and wholesome environment- ideally with both parents. That’s why when some couples experience the ‘empty nest’ when their kids grow up and move out, they have nothing in common aside from parenting.
If you’re struggling in your marriage and are only staying together to give your children a ‘happy home’ then it could be time to speak with some family law solicitors who can talk you through the stages and advise the next best steps for you and your family to move on.
Staying together for the sake of your children and your family is the worst thing you can do. Children are sensitive to changing behaviour and will be able to sense when things are not right with their parents. More often than not, they’ll remember the times they heard their parents fighting more than the times they pretended.
Your communication has broken down
Most couples argue. Sometimes it can be over small things, and other times it’s over large things that take a lot of discussion to get over.
However, when one or both of you stops talking or communicating, it’s a sure sign that you no longer care and that you’d rather continue to suffer in silence.
Communication helps to strengthen a relationship. It helps to resolve issues and come up with ways in which a situation can be dealt with faster next time.
A lack of communication shows a lack of willingness to help make that relationship a priority. Relationships that are no longer a priority with no sign of changing should come to an end.
When your communication shuts down indefinitely, it’s probably time for you both to move on and give each other the opportunity to be happier.
There are signs of infidelity
While it’s not often the case for people who practise open relationships, exclusive couples who start to get itchy feet and look elsewhere start experiencing issues.
In these modern times it is much easier to meet people and enter into relationships. As a couple, you will have outlined your boundaries with regards to your relationship. Emotional or physical affairs are common in couples who are unhappy. It is up to you both to decide on the number of strikes before you’re out.
