What I Wore: You CAN Sit With Us

Last weekend was the first time that I attended a Geek Girl Brunch Miami event as a brunchette, and not an officer. Whoa.
It elicited a lot of feels that were constantly contradicting each other: happiness, relief, sadness, regret, etc. Lets face it, it’s not easy to walk away from something you absolutely love, no matter how much you know you need to. Something I can say I feel with 100% certainty is pride. From the outside, this organization may seem very silly and immature, but it is very important. It made a lot of ladies feel like they were accepted for the first time, free of judgement. They could be themselves in a safe environment.  And I will always be proud and humbled to know that I was a part of creating that in my city.

With those heavy feels aside, our brunch was 90’s themed, and I decided to go as my number one favorite 90’s geek queen: Daria. Without even knowing, one of my good friends (that I wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for Geek Girl Brunch) ended up dressing up as Jane. Kismet. Who else says leggings like Quinn and immediately imagines their eye popping out of its socket when they are super frustrated like Daria’s dad? Anyone? Just me? Cool.

What I Wore: Smells Like Mommy Stress

dscf8078

Man, life has been crazy lately. I thought things were difficult at the beginning of mommyhood, but now that Luna is about to be one (!!!), I feel like I don’t have any time for anything! My organization skills have been pushed to the max, and I have no idea how I’ve been able to cross things off my list. There are a lot of transitions coming up as well, which has me kind of in a state, so to speak. I even got a muscle spasm in my neck from the stress. My work schedule is completely changing (so thankful to have work, seriously), I’m planning an intimate party for Luna and her first trip to Disney World (!!), the hubby’s birthday shortly after and then I’m headed to MegaCon Tampa Bay to return just in time for Halloween. Oh, and have I mentioned Luna is starting day care in November? It’s a lot. Almost too much. But I’m rolling on this wave, and trying my best to not lose my mind. Having it all takes your all, it seems.

In between the madness, I try to appreciate the little moments that really mean so much. After taking these photos, we were driving back home and I put my head on Luna’s lap while she was in her car seat. She found this hilarious and started giggling uncontrollably. I took in her laughter, breathed her in, and cried (with love + happiness, of course). When things get to be too much, I find just looking at this little thing I made to make it all right again.

What I Wore: No Doubt

DSCF3327

Being a fangirl does not only mean partaking in all things geek, but also can mean you are passionate about anything and everything! In my case, I adore music (especially rock ‘n roll) just as much as my other fandoms. I’m a big fan of 90’s rock and grunge and I’m secretly (or not so secretly) excited about the 90’s resurgence in fashion. I decided to rock out with my No Doubt out a couple of weekends back on a day date with the hubs, and totally loved the laid back vibe.

Happy Hump Day: Ethan Embry

My crush on Ethan Embry in the 90’s was monumental. I’m pretty sure all my thoughts revolved around finding a boy that looked just like him. Spoiler alert: I never did. But, my teenage dream kind of came true about a year ago when we had a back and forth conversation on Twitter. I got entirely too excited – almost like it was like Rex Manning day. 😉

So happy to see him as part of the cast of Once Upon a Time!
