Luna’s Birth Story

birthstory

Luna and I are safely back at home now, while we continue to transition into parenthood and attempting to get a little routine going. I wanted to make sure I shared my birth story on the blog before the details got hazy (truth: they already are) because I really enjoyed reading other bloggers’ recaps. A lot of the time, people won’t share the nitty gritty of their labor experience, but I think it’s important to be truthful. It helped me anticipate and prepare for what that day would possibly bring in store for me and I’m glad it did.

At about 36 weeks, Luna was diagnosed as being IUGR (Intra-Uterine Growth Restriction). Basically, that means your baby is not growing as they should be. Case in point, she was measuring 33 weeks at 36. I was immediately ordered to get ultrasounds done twice a week leading up to the end of my pregnancy. It was then that they discovered that she was in the 4th percentile in terms of weight. I was terrified. I looked up IUGR online (bad idea) and terrible scenarios like stillborns and emergency c-sections were immediately thrown in my face. Because of this diagnosis, my doctor believed it was best to induce me at 38 weeks so that we could be in control of her growth and nourishment rather than my body. Cue: anxiety.

Minted: Baby Paper Goods

IMG_5751

I’m sure you guys have heard of Minted, especially if you get Christmas cards from your friends and family. I know come holiday season, our house is full of beautifully designed cards from the site, but they just recently introduced baby paper goods. If you know me, you know how much I love stationery, notebooks and the such. Basically, setting me loose in Office Depot is a treat. That’s why I was so happy to work together with Minted to bring you some of their cutest goods and show you how I’m going to make them work for baby Luna (sorry for all the blockage of Luna’s middle name – we are keeping it a secret until her birth).

I absolutely loved their baby notebooks so I knew I had to have one for little Lu. I have so many notebooks scattered around my house, it’s kind of ridiculous. I actually have several in her room already, but none were specifically geared towards her first year like this one. I also loved the gorgeous floral designed cover and the extra step of personalization with her first and middle name. The notebook also fits in perfectly aesthetic-wise with her nursery (which was revealed last week – check it out), so it was an added plus! The inside of the notebook is left blank so that you can fill it with whatever musings you wish, even if it’s just feeding times!

Life with Luna: Geeky Swag

geekybaby

Welcome to a new feature! Even though little Luna has not yet made her debut, she will be my partner in crime on this blog once she is and I look forward to sharing a lot of her outfits (whether she is in them or not) and her adventures in them. A lot of you have been asking me where I get all my cute geeky swag for her, so I figured I would put together a post sharing just that!

GOT_1

I know I share the Jordan Dene love on this blog often, but how can you not when she makes such adorable things for both babies and their parents?! I often voice that I wish they made some baby clothes for big kids, and Jordan does just that! The typography is on point and we share almost all the same fandoms, so I know I’m going to love every single piece she sends my way. Here you can see both a Game of Thrones inspired onesie, as well as a Doctor Who one. I styled the GOT onesie with a pair of skinny jeans (too much cute) that are cuffed at the bottom for some extra flair, as well as a striped beanie and silver mocs. This would definitely be a Wynwood adventuring session on a Sunday afternoon outfit with mommy attempting to pull off the same look!

Life with Luna: Nursery Tour

IMG_5866

With 4 weeks to go until the arrival of our little one (at the time of this post, at least), I am happy to say that her nursery is complete! Granted, we still have some touches that we will add along the way, but for now, everything is looking nice and neat and as it should. The anticipation is definitely growing to meet our sweet little moon, and seeing her adorable face on the ultrasound today made me smile so hard. She’s absolutely beautiful! I can’t wait to hold that tiny body and look into those big (surely brown) eyes. But until then, we have her bright & fun nursery to share with you all!

We wanted to make sure Luna’s room was neutral so that we could play with a lot of pops of color to accessorize and decorate. We found this perfect light gray hue at Lowe’s and made sure all her furniture was white or close enough to it. Behind her crib, we had some fun with both regular and custom pieces from Etsy. As you can see, we sprinkled in a lot of moon references. 😉

Cuddle+Kind

Cuddle + Kind dolls2 print

As I get ready to enter the world of mommy-dom, certain causes feel closer to me than ever. Naturally, I’ve always loved children as I work with them and their families every day but now there is another component factoring in. I’m going to have one of these little things and I will officially be part of a family. I’m sure my husband and I will do anything possible to make Luna’s life better and assure that she is happy and healthy. That’s why I was instantly drawn to Cuddle+Kind.

The brand was created by the parents of 3 children, Jennifer and Derek Woodgate, on a mission to feed children in need. After viewing a documentary on the devastating impact of childhood hunger on millions of children around the world, it inspired them to help. With a background in health, they recognized the crucial role nutrition plays in a child’s development and thus, Cuddle+Kind was born. For every Cuddle+Kind doll purchased, the company provides 10 meals to hungry children around the world through giving partners, World Food Program USA and Children’s Hunger Fund.

And look at those gorgeous dolls! Each is handcrafted in Peru and you can tell they are made with all the love in the world. They would add the perfect splash of color to your child’s nursery or room, and would naturally become one of their favorite cuddle buddies. Hell, they may become one of mine!
