I used to host many a themed party before baby, but we just recently had a small get together to watch the new Sherlock season (!!!) and low and behold, Luna slept through the entire thing! It has made us hopeful that we can begin hosting again because it really was one of our favorite things to do as a couple. As many of you know, I am the founding officer of Geek Girl Brunch Miami, and for now live out my themed party fantasies through our monthly brunches and events. I thought I would share with you some of my ideas for different themes, and if you guys dig it, it could become a permanent staple here on the blog.
Sorting Drinks; the great thing about having sorting beverages is that it can be used for both an adult party (booze – woo!) or for children. It’s a lot more fun than a sorting hat and gives photographic proof that you were sorted into the right (or wrong) house. A little bit of food coloring is masked under some ice and as the drink is poured, your fate is revealed! {source}
Chamber of Secrets mirror; the thing about Harry Potter is that it is pretty creepy when it wants to be. The Chamber of Secrets warning written in red lipstick on your bathroom mirror will do the trick! This was done at the Books + Books Cursed Child release party and it was so fun. 10 points to Gryffindor for simplicity too. {source}
Floating Acceptance Letters; probably one of the most iconic scenes in the Potter films is when Harry is attacked by billions of flying acceptance letters to Hogwarts. And lets face it, it’s probably one of your deepest and darkest fantasies to experience the same (ok, not so deep or dark). Make it a photo op by hanging some letters of your own off of fishing wire. Again, Books + Books killed it with this at their party, and in turn, made for one of my favorite photos of myself. {source}
Broomstick Munchies; it’s always good to have snacks at any party, and if you can theme them too, then even better! These cuties are made with pretzel sticks and some cheese. {source}
Quidditch Beer Pong; this has been the dream ever since we first saw someone put it together. I really wish I could say that we have tried this in the past, but we have yet to do so! I think we should stop procrastinating and just get to it already. Birthday 2017 challenge? Accepted. {source}
Wanted Poster; I recreated the famous Sirius Black wanted poster for my friend’s bachelorette party and it came out killer! It was the absolute best way to start off our nights of debauchery and is a real ice breaker if your guests don’t know each other well. {source}
