The Outfits of SDCC 2017

You might as well cue those post con blues because I’m feeling them, geeks.
It’s very hard to put my thoughts and feelings about this con into words. It was very different from others. I sat (nervously) on my first panel, I met incredibly talented people, cosplayed for the first time (in SD) and had a lot of fun. It was my first extensive amount of time away from my daughter (oh, I cried), and helped me gain some confidence with my projects.

Unfortunately, the one thing that went wrong while at con this year (aside from not running into the cast of The Magicians – whomp whomp) is that my extra lithium battery and charger were confiscated without my knowledge when I had to check my bag at the very last minute before boarding to San Diego. This meant I could barely take photos with my Canon while I was there – leaving only my iPhone to do the work. It was a big bummer, but I made the best of it!

I have to say I struggled to put together outfits for this trip. I thought they were all “eh” at best, with juggling a very demanding 9-5, Geek Girl Gang and a toddler. However, I loved the way they all ended up coming together, and wanted to share them all with you!

Day 1;
Tee – Geek Girl Gang
Shorts – Old Navy

Nite 1;
Vintage crop – 1138 Clothing
Skirt – Lularoe

What I Wore: SDCC Ready

It’s only one month until SDCC 2017 is in full swing, and I’ve begun planning my outfits. This year is all about comfort, while still being true to my fun and feminine aesthetic. There is a lot I can’t wait to share with you all about this year’s visit, but for now, here is one of my favorite SDCC outfits that I have put together to date.

Tee; Geek Girl Gang
Skirt; LulaRoe
Kicks; Target
Shades; Gap {similar}

I remember how I came up with the “comic con is my cardio” design. I was literally at SDCC, running from one event to the next. I was out of breath and sweaty. I looked over to my friend who was running next to me, and said “comic con is my cardio.” Then I stopped, and realized: that should be on a shirt. Geek Girl Gang wasn’t born for another 2 years, but the idea stayed with me. I’m so (gag)blessed(gag) to be able to be wearing my designs this year to con, and knowing other people will be too. I mean…how crazy rad is that?

I’m also test running how my Lularoe Cassie skirts do on the road during strenuous conditions. I love the way they look with my tees, and immediately makes a simple look turn up a notch to be a little sexier (sign me up!). I turn it down again by pairing it with sneakers and voila! My perfect little fashion nook.

Here’s hoping I’m comfy and cute at this year’s SDCC!
Who else will be joining me?

Nerdy Must Haves

collage

1. Lord of the Rings Collar Set; My true love of La Barbuda is already known on this blog, so I won’t further gush. However, I love this new LOTR themed collar set. It’s so beautiful, and means so much. You see, I still count LOTR as being my “gateway fandom.” I had always been a fangirl my entire life, but the LOTR movies are what caused me to become immersed in a fandom online, and form friendships (initially) based on it and yadda yadda. The rest is absolute history, but LOTR holds a special place in my heart and always will.

2. Geek Girl Gang Ringer; is it tacky to post about my own products on Nerdy Must Haves? Oops. It’s been amazing to have a product I created (with my in-house designer’s help) slowly become so popular! I’m constantly restocking the Geek Girl Gang ringer because it flies off the shelves. I absolutely love that it is fostering a sense of community among geek girls and is bringing us all together with a message of friendship and camaraderie.  Go get your ringer here + join the gang. 😉

3. Wonder Woman socks; OK, so…was Wonder Woman not the best thing ever? I found myself in tears during the “No Man’s Land” battle because it was just so amazing to think that my daughter will have an amazing role model to look up to (aside from the women in her every day life). Without giving any spoilers, she was perfect: feminine, powerful and passionate. These socks are just cute. But they represent so much, don’t they?

4. 1138 Fandom Formal Collection; I have been obsessed with Linda’s designs for quite some time now and it’s been amazing to see her grow as an artist. She is ever evolving and beyond talented. I am so excited for her launch of the Fandom Formal Collection, which is inspired by Star Wars. How gorgeous is that Leia dress, you guys? If you haven’t heard of her (do you live on this planet????), check her out on IG here and order a custom pretty NOW.

Hatch Miami

After a long time of contemplating it, I finally took the plunge and decided to participate as a vendor at a local fair. My fellow Geek Girl Brunch Miami officers got accepted as vendors into Hatch Miami, which is a fair targeted at supporting local women in the city. You had to be a woman to be accepted into the event, and when I decided to participate, not only as a Geek Girl Brunch officer, but also as a business owner for Geek Girl Gang, I had no idea how positive the experience would be.

It was so refreshing and inspiring to be around other creatives. And not only creatives, but women. It felt like a big supportive family. I was able to meet some people I had never seen outside of social media, and make some new friendships as well with a lot of talented ladies. It made me more confident about my decision to open the shop back up and feed this creative monster within me. I can’t wait to soldier forward with new ideas and a surer mindset.

Although I’m not sure when the next event will be, I strongly urge you to keep your eyes peeled and attend if you are a South Florida local!

What I Wore: Smells Like Mommy Stress

dscf8078

Man, life has been crazy lately. I thought things were difficult at the beginning of mommyhood, but now that Luna is about to be one (!!!), I feel like I don’t have any time for anything! My organization skills have been pushed to the max, and I have no idea how I’ve been able to cross things off my list. There are a lot of transitions coming up as well, which has me kind of in a state, so to speak. I even got a muscle spasm in my neck from the stress. My work schedule is completely changing (so thankful to have work, seriously), I’m planning an intimate party for Luna and her first trip to Disney World (!!), the hubby’s birthday shortly after and then I’m headed to MegaCon Tampa Bay to return just in time for Halloween. Oh, and have I mentioned Luna is starting day care in November? It’s a lot. Almost too much. But I’m rolling on this wave, and trying my best to not lose my mind. Having it all takes your all, it seems.

In between the madness, I try to appreciate the little moments that really mean so much. After taking these photos, we were driving back home and I put my head on Luna’s lap while she was in her car seat. She found this hilarious and started giggling uncontrollably. I took in her laughter, breathed her in, and cried (with love + happiness, of course). When things get to be too much, I find just looking at this little thing I made to make it all right again.

Tee; Geek Girl Gang {now available in shop!}
Jeans; Forever 21
Hat; Forever 21 {similar}
Sneakers; Jane.com
Lips; Colourpop’s Kapow
