On Mother’s Day, we planned a gender reveal for our little nugget. I thought that it would be the perfect occasion, so I went out of my way to get a private ultrasound to detect the gender earlier that week. I was so nervous that our nugget wouldn’t cooperate, but SHE did! I can’t really describe the feeling when you find out your baby’s sex. We weren’t hoping for one over the other, but it just feels so real once you know. We can call her by her name, go shopping for her clothes, and start envisioning the little woman she will one day grow up to be. Basically: magical.
We wanted only our close & immediate family at the reveal, but still wanted to make it special while sticking to a budget. I got a lot of our party supplies from Target, Hobby Lobby & Party City and more of the specialty items from Etsy or other online stores. This is kind of a mini-preview of our baby shower, since I apparently am obsessed with the modern rustic look lately. I just can’t get enough of burlap and gold glitter, sue me.
We, of course, had to add a geeky element to our party, so instead of the typical “wear your guess” buttons or pins with bow ties or bows, we went Star Wars. We got some adorable Luke and Leia buttons off of Etsy, and they were a hit! Our guests were not split – the majority picked up Leia, leaving our Luke’s pretty lonely (that family intuition).
The most exciting part of the morning though was the actual reveal! Everyone was extremely anxious and impatient, so we decided to do it right away. After all, I had tortured them all enough for an entire week. We had black balloons that we filled with pink confetti and had them all pop them at the same time. It was so hysterical to watch all their reactions as the balloons popped! Word to the wise: make sure you fill your balloons with A LOT of the gender specific colored confetti. I wanted to make sure we had a big explosion so I used “filler” confetti in different colors with larger pink confetti, but a lot of our guests had to look at the floor to determine what color they were seeing. Don’t make my same mistake if you want to do the same!
