Tune-age Tuesday

I figured it had been entirely too long since I had put together a mixtape to share with all of you. Plus, I’ve heard through the grapevine that a lot of you out there favor my husband’s mixtapes over mine. I just cannot let that happen. 😉

It’s a mix of old and new, as every good thing should be. I hope you all enjoy it and I hope I managed to turn some of you on to some great new (or old) artists. I’ll make sure to start posting these a little more regularly…maybe quarterly or so that you guys can get an idea of what I’m listening to! After all, music is the glue of the world.

Concert Season: Kings of Leon

148772_kings-of-leon4

Today marks the beginning of my “concert season.” After today, I will have about 1 to 2 concerts a week leading right into the first week of June and I couldn’t be more excited. The thought of having a show every week really makes my work days go by faster! So look forward to a lot of concert giddiness as well as reviews coming up the entire month of May here on the blog.

Tonight I’ll be seeing Kings of Leon at the BankUnited Center. This is my second time seeing them live – they opened for Pearl Jam last summer and I was blown away. I was already a fan, but seeing how amazing they were in concert made me even more so. To me, they represent good old rock & roll and I really don’t believe there is enough of that out in the music scene right now. I couldn’t be happier to see them headlining their own shows in relatively large venues – the 4/5 songs I heard them play when they were openers definitely was not enough. So I’ll be strapping on my dance shoes tonight in preparation for what I know is going to be a great & extremely energetic show from the boys.

For those of you not familiar with the band, check out the video for their newest single (and one of my favorite songs of theirs), Sex on Fire:

If you are also making it out to the show tonight & happen to have floor tickets as well, maybe we’ll share a dance or two 😉

Feeling a little MUSE-ical.

museroid

Warning: This is not an April Fools Joke.

I could barely contain myself (& still really can’t) yesterday when my best friend, Elsie, told me that Muse was going to be opening for U2 on select US dates. In fact, I was so shocked, I didn’t trust her. But sure enough, after a quick google search, there it was! My proof! And as if that wasn’t good enough, one of those select dates includes a Florida one (Tampa to be exact)! I literally jumped all around our office and hugged everyone. If you don’t believe me, just ask any of my coworkers. I looked like a nut. But this is a momentous occasion. If I remember my history right, I’m pretty sure Muse has only played Florida about 3-4 times in their entire career and unfortunately were either never announced as openers or headlined very small shows like the MTV Campus Invasion tour. Although I am no longer a huge U2 fan (prefer their old stuff), I will be buying tickets on Monday when they go on sale only to finally see one of my favorite bands live. To think, this love affair all began with an obsessive rented satellite radio almost two years ago.

Music is my imaginary friend

melificentmix

It’s time for yet another mixtape! To my surprise, I was actually asked when I would be posting a new one which was super flattering. Again, nothing fancy. There was no specific theme in mind until I started compiling the songs together and realized it was going more in the mellow direction so I threw in a few what I like to call “dance dance” songs to liven it up a bit so you all don’t think I’m in a depressive funk or anything. I like to think of it as slowly building up and then closing out quietly. According to the hubs, this is the best way to compile a mixtape so let me know if he spoke the truth!

A Melificent Mix Vol. 3:
Music is My Imaginary Friend

[Mix Fun Fact:] I honestly think Third Eye Blind is the most underestimated band ever. If you’ve only heard Semi-Charmed Kind of Life, please download their other albums. Their lyrics are so powerful, but people just view them as a poppy one hit wonder band.

Music spotlight: Oren Lavie

I have to give my husband credit for introducing me to Oren Lavie during his most recent mixtape creation (check it out here, it’s great). He states that I scoffed at the song at first, but I don’t remember that at all (heh). Either way, Her Morning Elegance is such a beautiful little ditty (there is no better way to describe it). It immediately made me smile and is there really anything better than a song that makes you smile?

Maybe a song that has a video that makes you smile as well:
