Creating geek chic outfits for San Diego Comic Con can be daunting since it’s the epicenter of geek style and fashion. You want to look good, while also being comfortable enough to be on your feet and on the go 24/7. I figured I would share some of my tried and true techniques to help take some of the stress out of packing now that we are in the final stretch (can you believe it?!).
San Diego Comic Con: Beauty Essentials
Needless to say, Comic Con is a crazy time. These last few weeks leading up to San Diego are always frenzied, so I figured I would hand out a weekly tip until it is D-day to help the rest of you out! Even though I love love love going to Comic Con, sometimes certain components of it really stress me out, so I am always looking for ways to simplify. This year, you guys are going along for the ride.
Lets talk Comic Con beauty. Sure, it may not be the first thing you think of when you think of SDCC, but I assure you, it is important. I feel looking your best is important whether you are cosplaying, networking or presenting. So many pictures are being taken and memories are being made, so you want to make sure you look put together and fresh, without overpacking (c’mon, we need room for all our swag!). Here are some of my absolute essentials:
The Outfits of SDCC 2017
You might as well cue those post con blues because I’m feeling them, geeks.
It’s very hard to put my thoughts and feelings about this con into words. It was very different from others. I sat (nervously) on my first panel, I met incredibly talented people, cosplayed for the first time (in SD) and had a lot of fun. It was my first extensive amount of time away from my daughter (oh, I cried), and helped me gain some confidence with my projects.
Unfortunately, the one thing that went wrong while at con this year (aside from not running into the cast of The Magicians – whomp whomp) is that my extra lithium battery and charger were confiscated without my knowledge when I had to check my bag at the very last minute before boarding to San Diego. This meant I could barely take photos with my Canon while I was there – leaving only my iPhone to do the work. It was a big bummer, but I made the best of it!
I have to say I struggled to put together outfits for this trip. I thought they were all “eh” at best, with juggling a very demanding 9-5, Geek Girl Gang and a toddler. However, I loved the way they all ended up coming together, and wanted to share them all with you!

What I Wore: SDCC Ready
It’s only one month until SDCC 2017 is in full swing, and I’ve begun planning my outfits. This year is all about comfort, while still being true to my fun and feminine aesthetic. There is a lot I can’t wait to share with you all about this year’s visit, but for now, here is one of my favorite SDCC outfits that I have put together to date.
Tee; Geek Girl Gang
Skirt; LulaRoe
Kicks; Target
Shades; Gap {similar}
I remember how I came up with the “comic con is my cardio” design. I was literally at SDCC, running from one event to the next. I was out of breath and sweaty. I looked over to my friend who was running next to me, and said “comic con is my cardio.” Then I stopped, and realized: that should be on a shirt. Geek Girl Gang wasn’t born for another 2 years, but the idea stayed with me. I’m so (gag)blessed(gag) to be able to be wearing my designs this year to con, and knowing other people will be too. I mean…how crazy rad is that?
I’m also test running how my Lularoe Cassie skirts do on the road during strenuous conditions. I love the way they look with my tees, and immediately makes a simple look turn up a notch to be a little sexier (sign me up!). I turn it down again by pairing it with sneakers and voila! My perfect little fashion nook.
Here’s hoping I’m comfy and cute at this year’s SDCC!
Who else will be joining me?
SDCC 2017 Roll Call
I used to go to San Diego Comic Con every other year.
Getting pregnant and having Luna kind of changed that tradition, but I am so happy that I’ll be back this year! Many people quote Disney as the happiest place on Earth, but to me it’s definitely SDCC. Sure, it’s pure insanity and 4-5 days of day drinking, constant activity/partying and little to no sleep, but I would not have the experience play out any other way. Sensory overload is probably the best way to describe a true Comic Con experience. Throw in the fact that I have not gone into the convention in about 5 years and yep: I feel like a rookie again.
Despite my born again SDCC-ness, check out my tips for what you should bring/expect here and what you can wear here + here.
Who else will be in attendance? I’d love to meet + hang out with you all!
I also can’t wait to share all my SDCC 2017 outfits and events in the weeks to come.
