What I Wore: Indie Craft Bazaar

Just recently while shopping with the lovely Fashionable ESQ, I complained that I don’t think I can rock the peplum look very well. She looked at me like I was crazy, and as usual, gave me an ego boost assuring me that I could wear whatever I wanted. I may have rolled my eyes or scoffed at her, but apparently her advice stuck because just this past weekend, I threw on the one peplum item I own and guess what? I liked the way it looked again. Friends are pretty neat.

I wore this outfit to a local craft fair, so look out for a full blown post on my experience later this week!

Florida Supercon

Is it terrible to admit that I didn’t expect much from our local comic book convention, Supercon? Blame it on my multiple Comic Con experiences, but I was fully prepared to walk around pulling a major McKayla. Man, was I proved wrong. Like, really wrong. I was especially blown away with the talent in the Artist Alley upstairs. I did not know Miami/Florida housed so many amazing artists that fed into the geeky culture. I mean, I didn’t even know Miami had a geeky culture, but again, I was proved wrong based on the line that snaked around the entire Radisson hotel. Color me surprised, Miami. I’m kind of proud of you.

I figured rather than just posting a bunch of pictures chronicling our experience, I would share with you all the talent I experienced by providing you with links to my favorite artists/vendors. Check ’em out, support local artists and businesses and, most importantly, enjoy!

Clockwise (l to r): Andrew Heath (we actually bought this exact Tobias print), Brian Reedy (amazing woodcut art – snagged two pieces from him), Sugar Fueled (so adorable/creepy, I can’t get enough) & Art of Danny (gorgeous split persona’s you have probably seen on Pinterest 1223426 times).

Denim Seeker Makes Its Way to South Florida

When shopping for jeans, I am immediately reminded of being a dressing room and overhearing a girl exclaim in utter frustration, “Where do people SHOP???” There really is nothing worse than treating yourself to a little shopping excursion, only to have a mental breakdown in a dressing room. Why doesn’t anything fit? Is it supposed to look like that? Maybe I can make it work.

Thankfully someone tapped into this frustration and created the Denim Seeker. What is this creation you ask? The Denim Seeker is a digital touch screen that maps out a shopper’s journey to finding the perfect pair of jeans. The tool connects shoppers with real women’s opinions and body types, 5 universal jeans that truly look good on every shape and size, and even a glossary of denim terms. As part of the in-store experience, Denim Seeker invites guests to select their body type, after which it will provide denim recommendations based on in-store availability. And the best part? The Bloomingdales in Aventura Mall is one of five in the country to house one of these bad boys.

This means you can head over to Bloomingdales, make your way up to the 2nd floor to the women’s denim department and find this glorious little contraption. Women of the world, rejoice! Now to find that elusive Cuban Hips button….

Creative 5K’s Coming to Town

Although I’m not one of those girls that gets excited about going to the gym or working out (can’t I just stay in bed sipping on a mimosa?), I love the slew of creative 5K’s that are popping up all over the place lately! I think it’s not only a great way to get active, but also a unique way to spend time with friends and do something a little different. Although “different” may be easy to find elsewhere, it is definitely lacking in Miami so I am very glad to see some of these quirky races coming to our neck of the woods.

Here are just a few that are coming our way;

1. 5K Foam Fest || 2. Color Me Rad 5K || 3. Pretty Muddy || 4. Dirty Girl Mud Race

Would you participate in a fun 5K?
I think I’m going to attempt the Color Me Rad race in February! Any takers?

Happy Hump Day: Matt Bellamy

If you don’t believe there is something sexy about Matt Bellamy, you definitely have never seen him perform. This small little British Lima Bean (as I affectionately call him) really lights up a stage. He is the true meaning of showmanship. If you have not heard of his band, Muse, please make sure you change that. And soon. Perfect opportunity for local readers? Muse is finally headlining a South Florida show in February and you can buy your tickets on Friday! I can honestly say that attending their concerts are like a religious experience, and I can’t wait to watch them front and center behind that barricade. Who is joining me?
