Happy Hump Day: Chris Hemsworth

November 24th, 2010 | Posted in Hump Day, Movies by Meli

You may not know Chris Hemsworth’s name right now, but chances are you definitely will come next summer when Thor is released in theaters. Hemsworth will play the lead character, a powerful but arrogant warrior that is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard and sent to live amongst humans on Earth. He will be joined by Hollywood heavy-hitters Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins, which definitely has everyone listing it as one of the most anticipated movies of 2011. But, if you are good with faces, you may remember his small role in the beginning of Star Trek as Captain Kirk’s late father. He’s definitely come a long way from those Australian soaps and America is not complaining ;)

Happy Hump Day: Chris Pine

I don’t do blondes, but I wouldn’t mind spending some time with the newest Captain Kirk, Chris Pine. He found himself catapulted into the lime light with the huge sci-fi role last year and it’s pretty safe to say that his life will probably never be the same. Although you may remember him from The Princess Diaries: Royal Engagement if you love Anne Hathaway as much as I do (heh). Mr. Pine also started quite the fangirl revolution with his obvious chemistry with hottie Vulcan, Zachary Quinto. Bring on the fandoms and the photo manipulations! One in particular, really got a lot of Internet air time: the Pinto. Some amazingly awesome person decided it would be a fabulous idea to morph both Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto’s facial features to create quite possibly the most glorious male specimen ever known. Curious? Click below to enjoy the picspam along with the infamous photomanip!

M is for Monday, Melificent & MOON!

August 24th, 2009 | Posted in Geekery, Hump Day by Meli

Unfortunately, there really wasn’t anything to report this weekend. There was a somewhat messy happy hour on Friday night and plenty of rain and house hunting throughout the remaining two days. But, in true Melificent fashion, I don’t want to leave you all hanging so I’ll share the next best thing: a ridiculous youtube video!

Have a great beginning to the week, everyone!
And may the force be with all my teacher friends – good luck on your first days with the rugrats!

Weekend Highlights: Star Trek edition

All the stars aligned on Friday afternoon, when my good friend Aurora (check out her great cocktail reviews on Miami.com) gave me a call. The last thing I expected her to tell me was that she had an extra advanced screening pass for two to see Star Trek Saturday morning, but she did. Needless to say, both Augi and I shifted our schedules to be able to make this happen!

We got to Sunset Place two hours early to ensure that we’d be let in and basked in the ultimate J.J. Abrams-fan-nerdiness that were our fellow movie goers. It was very hard not to interject when I heard all the LOST theories being thrown around, but I managed as best as I could! It was just really fun to be around so many enthusiastic people – unfortunately, there are not many around these parts.

But enough about that, let me get to the good stuff: the movie! Warning: I will obviously be talking about the movie’s plot & characters, so make sure you know what you are doing when you click to continue reading. There will be spoilers, so don’t say I didn’t warn you (in large bold letters)!

Making Trek look good

It’s Thursday, which makes it almost Friday, which means we all need a little pick-me-up to get us through the day and one step closer to the weekend. What works best for me?

Pretty boys.
And here are two just for all of you!

Chris Pine & Zachary Quinto have just begun their tour of the world to support J.J. Abrams’ newly vamped Star Trek. It premiered in Sydney, Australia just a couple of days ago and a surprise screening was held in Austin earlier this week for a few lucky fans complete with Leonard Nimoy introduction. So that means the reviews have started rolling in. What is everyone saying? That it is a-freaking-mazing, that’s what.
