GIVEAWAY: Melissa Auf Der Maur

I’m really proud to announce my first giveaway since starting Melificent a year ago!
I was contacted by the great people at Filter Magazine, one of the best indie rock publications in America, to share some great new music from one of my personal fav’s: Melissa Auf Der Maur.

Melissa+Auf+der+Maur+-+02

I had the pleasure of both seeing Melissa perform live as well as having a lengthy chat with her several years ago. She’s such a sweetheart and really cares about her fans. She also happens to be a complete rock goddess the second she takes that stage. That’s why I’m so excited for her new album, Out of Our Minds, which will be released on March 30th. The album promises to be amazing on its own, but is accompanied by a 28-minute HD film conceived by Melissa herself (which she stars in as well). There will even be limited edition comic books and matching picture disk vinyls to complete the extensive multimedia project!

Sounds cool?
Check out the music video for her first single off the album, Out of Our Minds (OOOM):

Now onto the good stuff!
This giveaway is for:

1 copy of Out of Our Minds on CD
I MadM t-shirt

Please leave your name in the comments & why you love Melissa & her music!
The contest will remain open until March 4th when I will pick the winner at random.

Thanks for playing & I hope to feature more fun giveaways in the future!

I love Melissa she’s different from all the female singers we have around. She uses her voice and not her body to sell her music and she has her own sound. It’s nice to see someone stay true to herself. What else can I say, her voice is amazing.

I wish I could have seen her live. You’re lucky.

I wants it, precious! I’ve met MAdm twice, and she’s no less than a goddess. Multitalented, gorgeous — hey, us redheads named Melissa need to stick together, hehe.

I love melissa because she opened my spirit & heart to music!

I never thought that one day I will be able to play a song on guitar or bass since I was 20 years old and I never played any instruments! (I’m 25 now)

I’ve seen her on stage that was a revelation! Later, I’ve seen an interview, she was claiming that the Bass was the mother of all instruments, that it was an instrument that enable to connect with the heart of people, that’s why I choose to play the bass & then the guitar.

I love her music because it’s just brillant! Her voice is perfectly fitting the instrumental part, it’s bringing us to many little universe from a pirate one ( followed the waves) to vicking universe ( OOOM ).

Ps: Don’t pay attention to my mistakes I’m French !!!

Why I love Melissa? To me it’s more “why don’t EVERYONE love her”, she’s that good. I love her creativity, she stays true to her own sound and visions, and her music is so inpsiring and unique. At the risk of sounding like some old fart, I think music nowadays tend to sound completely the same (and, sadly, all singers tend to look the same as well), and Melissa is truly a breath of fresh air on the current music scene.

I’ve seen Melissa grow throughout the years as an artist and personality and she seems to have remained true to what she believes in and the music that moves her rather than bowing to commericial expectations and/or the direction that people assume she should be moving in. Even in Hole with as big a personality as Courtney Love – Melissa still stood out as being true to herself. This is far more inspirational than a lot of musicians out there today and to boot she produces excellant music.

I love Melissa for staying true to her principles always, she has been a great influence for me in my life and, of course, in music. She really impressed me when she was part of Smashing Pumpkins, which is my favorite band, but when I listened to her solo album it was a whole new surprise!! been a fan ever since and always will! I love the way she puts her heart and soul into everything she does, and also respect her for being an art lover, just like me. In two words, for me, Melissa is: PURE TALENT. OOOM! ♥♪♫

I always liked Melissa when she was with Hole, as Hole are my all time favourite band! But it wasn’t until I saw her first solo tour in the UK, supporting A Perfect Circle, that I realised how amazing a person and performer she is in her own right.

I was so gobsmacked by the intensity of her live show that night, that I walked straight out into the foyer of the venue when she had finished and didn’t watch A Perfect Circle. This ended up being the best move I ever made! I was sitting there, in my new red AdM skinny tee, when who should come along than Melissa herself with a couple of other band members!

She smiled at me and I said “hi” in some gormless fashion. I’m not the groupie sort but I had just been so astounded by her performance that it was like seeing a goddess appear before me! She was lovely enough to stop and talk to me for quite a while, give me one of her personalised plectrums (which I treasure to this day), and even took my name to put me on her guestlist for her first UK headliner in London.

She is such a wonderful person, pure of heart and the most talented artist I know. I cannot wait for the OOOM album to come out, and it would be awesome if I won this. Thanks for doing the giveaway, good luck with the site!

I love Melissa because she is a woman who actually PLAYS her instrument and doesnt carry it around like an accessory. Because she seems secure in herself without endless surgery and dieting. Also, because of her SONGS and band history. And being slightly envious of her working with josh homme 😀

I never met Melissa but she’s everything I’m looking for in an artist. She’s strong & charismatic, you can feel her love and passion for music when she plays and when she talks about it, she’s an amazing bassist and songwriter… She’s not fake, she’s real… and I think this honesty is what makes her music so accessible and amazing. She had a big impact on me on a musical level, made me want to play bass, to have a band, to write songs… She’s a real inspiration. Thank you Melissa for your music 🙂

One thing I know, she has a command of the bass that puts her into the Goddess category.

I am pleased that her career has done so well, she is a model for other female musicians, with class and dignity. She has versatility and passion that reaches beyond her music.
I have a lot to learn from her.

Why? Bass and guitars flow towards the sea, waves break upon the shore, a confluence, crescendos of intensity, a voice that cracks open the mysteries

When I met Melissa through Capitol records street team, they promised I could meet her when the show was over.
I met her and she was the nicest sweetest person I have met. She invited me to have dinner with her and one of her bandmates and talked about COurtney Love and all sorts of music. She inspired me to pick up the bass. She is an amazing musician and person! I love her!

I knew her when she joined Hole. But later when I saw her play in Smashing Pumpkins videos, I felt she is fantastic. I was born in China, so I don’t have a chance to meet her. I came to US 1 year ago and started to collect her singles and promos. Though my native language is not English and sometimes I don’t understand very well about her lyrics, I think OOOM share some same concepts in her fist album AdM. I’ve already have the OOOM single, will buy the new box thru her website on Mar 30th.
