In my final Florida Supercon post, check out some of my favorite cosplays that I saw showcased on the exhibit floor. There were some pretty killer ones this year – from families all the way to pets! Everyone seemed to want to get in on the action this time around!
Florida Supercon 2016: Favorite Vendors
While visiting Florida Supercon a couple of weeks ago, I stumbled on some pretty amazing shops/vendors/artists. I decided to highlight a few and share their work here on the blog so that my lovely readers who were not in attendance could discover some new geeky creatives.
Jess D’Alba runs Geek Chic Dressica, an Etsy shop that specializes in feminine, yet geeky accessories and clothing. She had adorable hair bows and gorgeous retro-inspired crop tops. They totally spoke to my soul by having an added peter pan collar, so you know I was instantly smitten. She had this gorgeous Wonder Woman ensemble on deck to showcase her style, and I thought it was absolutely adorable. So much so that I have just commissioned her for a custom Harry Potter piece for my birthday festivities later this month. I am so excited to see how it turns out!
Florida Supercon 2016 Outfits
A couple of weeks ago, Miami welcomed Florida Supercon to Miami Beach during 4th of July weekend. I hadn’t been to a con in a year (!!!), so it was nice to be back in my element socializing with fellow geeks! I also had the opportunity to sit on my first panel that I organized myself with some ladies I really admire, which can now be crossed off the bucket list. All in all, it was a great weekend and look out for more posts detailing my experience coming up next week on the blog!
For now, check out the outfits I put together for each day I attended the con:
{Friday}
Kylo Tee; Jordan Dene
Detachable Peter Pan collar; eBay
High waist jeans; Forever 21
Sneakers; Jane.com
Internet pin; Tumblr
I Rebel pin; Geek Girl Gang
Nail polish; Essie’s No More Film
Lipstick; Colourpop’s Bootie
Friday was my day to wander the Con all by my lonesome, check out the exhibit floor and get my first convention-based tattoo! I knew I wanted to be comfortable, but also show my geek side. As usual, my immediate go-to was a Jordan Dene tee, because what else is there?? I threw on my favorite of my extensive collection and made it chic by adding my favorite peter pan collar paired with fun pins.
Florida Supercon Swag
In keeping with the Supercon posts, I figure I would share with you all the great finds I was able to snag while attending a couple of weeks back. I’m always impressed with the immense talent I find hidden right under my nose at local conventions, and love supporting small businesses and independent artists. My home is full of fanart made by some amazing artists and I hope to just continue that trend. I can’t wait to further feature some of these goodies, but for now, I’m just too excited to not share.
1. Sailor Moon Stick; I could not believe the amazing quality and price of this beautiful wooden moon stick! Altruistic sells some great cosplay weapons that can be used as props for your next convention, or just to display. I had to take this beauty with me to display in Luna’s room! It’s going to look perfect on one of her shelving units! They have so many other gorgeous props from different fandoms to choose from – so definitely check out their site.
2. Ice Cream Dress; I’ve been trying to stay away from form fitting clothes lately, mainly because I know I won’t be able to really enjoy them until after little Luna makes her appearance. However, I could not resist the temptation when I saw this adorable ice cream dress from Shop Veralu. It is so bright and fun. It just screamed Meli, so naturally it had to come home with me. I tried it on recently and it still fits (although very snug)! I’m going to try to get at least one use out of this baby before Luna grows me out of it!
3. My Little Pony Clutch; This is another stellar find from Shop Veralu! What I love the most about this shop is that it is located in The Florida Keys (which is one of my favorite spots ever) and handmade by the absolutely endearing and talented Lu Annen. I was lucky enough to chat with her both on and off camera for Fashionably Nerdy, and I can’t wait to feature her bright and fun fashions in an outfit post. Of course, I couldn’t go home with out this perfect little clutch that can be used to brighten any occasion, from wedding guest to date night.
Florida Supercon
Last week, I shared my Florida Supercon cosplay with you all, but I want to share everyone else’s amazing cosplay with you all this week. Honestly, I was so happy to see an increase in the quantity (& quality) of cosplay this year at Supercon. I’m proud that my little, at times, judgmental and superficial city is embracing their geek side. Way to go, Miami! {image heavy post}
