What I Wore: You CAN Sit With Us

Last weekend was the first time that I attended a Geek Girl Brunch Miami event as a brunchette, and not an officer. Whoa.
It elicited a lot of feels that were constantly contradicting each other: happiness, relief, sadness, regret, etc. Lets face it, it’s not easy to walk away from something you absolutely love, no matter how much you know you need to. Something I can say I feel with 100% certainty is pride. From the outside, this organization may seem very silly and immature, but it is very important. It made a lot of ladies feel like they were accepted for the first time, free of judgement. They could be themselves in a safe environment.  And I will always be proud and humbled to know that I was a part of creating that in my city.

With those heavy feels aside, our brunch was 90’s themed, and I decided to go as my number one favorite 90’s geek queen: Daria. Without even knowing, one of my good friends (that I wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for Geek Girl Brunch) ended up dressing up as Jane. Kismet. Who else says leggings like Quinn and immediately imagines their eye popping out of its socket when they are super frustrated like Daria’s dad? Anyone? Just me? Cool.

What I Wore: Not All Who Wander Are Lost

It’s always so fun to host Geek Girl Brunch Miami events. It’s become my one mama’s day out a month, so I enjoy it for all it’s worth! This month’s brunch was mine to plan, and being my birthday month, I decided to go with my first real-true-Internetworthy-hardcore fandom: Lord of the Rings. I remember joining Livejournal during the LOTR craze, and fangirling hard. I mean, my birthday cake had Frodo’s face plastered on it for my 21st and I stalked all fanpages possible for the entire cast. I still consider all of them my little babies, and love to see them all doing well. At one point, my screen name was “hobbitluv,” so yeah. It was serious stuff.

I knew I wanted to honor Frodo in a casual cosplay way (guys, it is HOT for a hobbit cloak, ok?) so I went boho. I made sure pieces I chose were flowy and comfy to emulate hobbit garb, and matched the colors of Frodo’s outfit. I paired it with my beloved Sting replica from The Noble Collection, and absolutely love the way it all turned out. I also love that I can use all the pieces again repeatedly because they are so cute, versatile and comfortable!

Turn That Frown Upside Down

Screen Shot 2017-04-18 at 10.19.53 PM

Life has its way of really throwing you some curve balls. Sometimes, life decides it’s going to throw you 50 all at once. Because you can handle it, right? For moments like these, I’ve compiled a list of ways to turn that seemingly perpetual frown, upside down.

1. Exercise.

I know. I hate it too, girlfriend. But if there is something working out does, it relieves stress. Blogilates and Tone it Up are my two favorite (+ free) YouTube channels that help me get in shape when I need it. I can feel summer’s hot breath on my back, so it does me well to get back on track with my fitness.

What I Wore: Sherlocked

_MG_9757

The Geek Girl Brunch Miami chapter had its 2nd brunch a couple of weeks ago, and the ladies chose Sherlock as the theme! Naturally, I was thrilled since it’s in my top 5 fandoms, so it was a blast to plan. I’ll elaborate more about it next week, but for now, you get to check out how I styled for the event 5 months pregnant.

It wasn’t easy. I have a lot of Sherlock apparel, but sadly, I am entering the “nothing really fits” realm when it comes to some of my fandom gear. I never want to just wear a t-shirt (I know, I’m speaking Miami girl right now), and my adorable Sherlock dress from Gold Bubble Clothing was skin tight before I started creating a little human. That left me with a pair of damask tights that kind-of replicated the infamous wallpaper we now all know and love. It’s actually almost the exact outfit I wore to last year’s SherlockedCC party at San Diego Comic Con with a few modifications!

Once again, leggings saved the day for this pregnant geek and I just piled high with related accessories to complete my fangirl look for the day. 😉
