What I Wore: You CAN Sit With Us

Last weekend was the first time that I attended a Geek Girl Brunch Miami event as a brunchette, and not an officer. Whoa.
It elicited a lot of feels that were constantly contradicting each other: happiness, relief, sadness, regret, etc. Lets face it, it’s not easy to walk away from something you absolutely love, no matter how much you know you need to. Something I can say I feel with 100% certainty is pride. From the outside, this organization may seem very silly and immature, but it is very important. It made a lot of ladies feel like they were accepted for the first time, free of judgement. They could be themselves in a safe environment.  And I will always be proud and humbled to know that I was a part of creating that in my city.

With those heavy feels aside, our brunch was 90’s themed, and I decided to go as my number one favorite 90’s geek queen: Daria. Without even knowing, one of my good friends (that I wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for Geek Girl Brunch) ended up dressing up as Jane. Kismet. Who else says leggings like Quinn and immediately imagines their eye popping out of its socket when they are super frustrated like Daria’s dad? Anyone? Just me? Cool.

What I Wore: Wonder Bread

You have to love outfits that make you smile, and when I saw this dress, it did absolutely that. I feel like you cannot possibly wear a frown on your face if you have this baby on. And doesn’t everyone need an outfit like that in their life? I think so.

I’m sure you have seen me post about this sweet little polka dot dress from Unique Vintage all over my Instagram, and I loved that someone said it reminded them of Wonder Bread. Memories of eating Wonder Bread at my grandmother’s house immediately spring to mind, and I can’t lie. I still buy it for the house too.

The world needs a little more smiles and love these days, and if I can give it to them in this brightly colored frock, then I’d wear it every day.

What I Wore: SDCC Ready

It’s only one month until SDCC 2017 is in full swing, and I’ve begun planning my outfits. This year is all about comfort, while still being true to my fun and feminine aesthetic. There is a lot I can’t wait to share with you all about this year’s visit, but for now, here is one of my favorite SDCC outfits that I have put together to date.

Tee; Geek Girl Gang
Skirt; LulaRoe
Kicks; Target
Shades; Gap {similar}

I remember how I came up with the “comic con is my cardio” design. I was literally at SDCC, running from one event to the next. I was out of breath and sweaty. I looked over to my friend who was running next to me, and said “comic con is my cardio.” Then I stopped, and realized: that should be on a shirt. Geek Girl Gang wasn’t born for another 2 years, but the idea stayed with me. I’m so (gag)blessed(gag) to be able to be wearing my designs this year to con, and knowing other people will be too. I mean…how crazy rad is that?

I’m also test running how my Lularoe Cassie skirts do on the road during strenuous conditions. I love the way they look with my tees, and immediately makes a simple look turn up a notch to be a little sexier (sign me up!). I turn it down again by pairing it with sneakers and voila! My perfect little fashion nook.

Here’s hoping I’m comfy and cute at this year’s SDCC!
Who else will be joining me?

What I Wore: Be Our Guest

IMG_4902

I was very excited to take control of the Disney Princess brunch for Geek Girl Brunch Miami. My life has been encompassed by Disney since having a child, and I have no shame when I say that Luna is a Disney kid. She is obsessed with Mickey Mouse and Elena of Avalor. Although Belle is definitely not my favorite princess (I know, gasp), I had to honor the new film by snagging this adorable replica of Belle’s famous gold dress for Lulu. I also LOVED the movie. Anyone else?

It was also the first time I wore a petticoat (ouch, itchy), and I loved feeling so flouncy and feminine. It was also sweet to see so many little girls looking at me like I truly came out of one of their fairytales. I can’t recommend Bonne Chance Collections enough for your kawaii clothing needs. I am beyond obsessed after making this purchase, and am pretty sure I’m just going to fill my closet with a bunch of their creations. As if you needed it, there is currently a flash sale going on – everything is $29.99! Thank me (or hate me) later.

What I Wore: A Star War

img_1128-copy

We had our last Geek Girl Brunch of the year opening weekend of Rogue One, so naturally, we made it a viewing brunch. Miami has a dine in theater that is now offering brunch items on their menu, so we went for it! As usual, I had a great time with my geek girls, but man – did that movie blind side me. Sure, you could tell me that I should have known better, but with everything that has been going on this month, I just really didn’t have time to think about movie plots or theories. I cried the.entire.time.

I don’t know if it was just poor timing after all the stress and anxiety I’ve been under after Luna’s hospitalization, but I just lost it. It felt good to have such an ugly cry session though – especially surrounded by nearly 20 other girls doing the exact same.
