So I’ve been aching to see Black Swan since teasers first started to pop up around the web several months back. I waited patiently throughout the limited release (Miami was not included) but I could no longer wait when it was finally open nationwide. The hubs and I decided to have a date night, stopping at The Pasta Factory first for dinner (yums) and then headed to the theater. Wowza. I thought the flick was amazing – I especially loved the way it was filmed: so raw and gritty. Natalie Portman was spectacular. She really embodied the role of what I believe was a paranoid schizophrenic hell bent on being perfect at her craft. So hell bent that she embodied her character, in some pretty interesting ways. As my husband put it, this movie is not for everyone as it can get pretty intense, but I think it was truly a work of art.
Archives for December 2010
Lovable Friday!

I have a lot of empty wall space in our new home as we have only been living here for 6 months (can’t believe it’s been such a short amount of time), but we have been keeping our eyes peeled for some nice art pieces to fill that void. However, after seeing the beautiful painting Jen Ramos of MadeByGirl quickly cooked up on her own, I am thinking of investing in a canvas and paintbrushes. How gorgeous and powerful is this artwork? I adore the modern simplicity of it. And what’s better than saying “I did that” while giving home tours to friends and family?

Happy Hump Day: Guy Pearce
One of the first movies that ever blew my mind was Christopher Nolan’s Memento. I had never seen anything like it and it definitely revolutionized the way I viewed movies from that point onwards. And as if the script wasn’t all sorts of amazing on its own, in comes Guy Pearce. Something won me over about the Australian actor. I don’t know if it was his ruggish good looks, amazing acting skills, or the overall package. I’m actually surprised he was not in more films after his rise to popularity in the early 2000’s, but he definitely is not lacking in work. In 2009, Pearce returned to his first love, Australian theater. And although I am happy he is persuing his craft on the small stage, I think he is sorely missed in the good old US of A. Hopefully this picspam will temporarily help fill that void. Good day!
