What I Wore: Hello Sweetie

IMG_7457 copy

What does one wear when going to meet a Time Lord?
That is what I had to ask myself last week when I was getting ready for our Geek Girl Brunch Pride, Prejudice and Zombies advanced screening. My co-chapter officer, Aurora, works in journalism, so she was able to secure this amazing event for our brunchettes and had us in the front seat: nabbing a quick meet and greet session with the stars of the movie before the theater Q&A. That meant I was going to meet Matt Smith: the 11th Doctor. My 2nd favorite Doctor. This is a huge deal for us Whovians and you could definitely smell the excitement (aside from everyone’s giant smiles and audible squee’s, of course).

Naturally, I went with sparkles because of who I am as a person. No, if I’m being honest, I definitely needed to wear this amazing tee from Jordan Dene but wanted to dress it up a bit. Thankfully, it was loose enough to fit another (sparkly) shirt underneath. The sequined collar and sleeves totally transformed the look! I paired it with my favorite new pleather leggings (because I’m Regina George-ing my 4th trimester), and the most incredible faux fur vest because it was cold in Miami for once!

My Geeky Valentine

I know a lot of you tout Valentine’s Day as a commercialized and ridiculous holiday. When I was single, I hated it. When I was in relationships, I hated it. It’s only now, as an old lady fart that I have grown to appreciate this holiday about love. Because it’s all around us, people. It doesn’t have to be romantic love – just a day to appreciate all the love surrounding you. Because trust me, every single one of us is circled by amazing people and animals that love us as much as we do them. So take the time out to step back and give thanks to the universe for that because it’s pretty special.

And aside from that, you get to wear pink! And hearts! The 14th really could be worse, amirite? Here’s my round up of pretty amazing geek-centric Valentine’s goodies;

vday

Moon of my life tank | Galentine’s Day card | Fictional character brooch
Parks & Rec wall hanging | Pixel heart clutch
Spooky Mulder pin | Star Wars pillowcases | Harry Potter brooch boyfriend

Life with Luna: There’s Still Good in the World

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

I fell in love with a certain shop on Etsy, Strangeways Studios. I’ve featured them several times on this blog for their adorable fandom baby onesies. I got Luna’s Christmas day onesie from them, and they sent me a few more onesies and goodies without me asking. So sweet! I’ve featured some of those as well if you remember. A few weeks pass, and they tell me they’ve sent me a little surprise that was inspired by my little Lulu bug. When I received the package, my eyes swelled with tears.

They had designed a onesie that will be sold in their store with the opening lyrics to Luna, the Smashing Pumpkins song I named my daughter after! We had discussed the reason behind the name in a conversation beforehand, and I was so happy that owner recognized the song, as not many people do. It was so absolutely touching. In fact, once Luna grows out of it, I’m pretty sure I’m going to shadowbox it.

I guess the reason I decided to share this story is because so many terrible and heartbreaking things are happening in the world on an everyday basis. Sometimes it’s pretty easy to let that black cloud consume you. However, every now and then, a little light shines through that dark cloud that changes your mind completely. There are still good people in this world, and to quote American Beauty, sometimes there is so much beauty in the world, I feel like I can’t take it.

So thank you, Strangeways Studios, for being that bright little sunbeam that forced its way from out of the clouds and into my life.

Geeky Mom Bod

I legitimately started the road to lose weight in December, but as you all know, that’s like…the worst time to diet. I lost 5lbs, and then gained them all back. It wasn’t until the new year that I kick started myself again and thought of easy ways to shed the baby weight. Since a lot of you have been asking me how I’m losing the weight, I thought I’d detail these simple changes I’ve made. As of the day I wrote this post, I am down 23lbs and have 18 to go if I want to be exactly at my pre-pregnancy weight (I was at my skinniest ever when I got pregnant, sooo…).

1. Drink lots of water. I am so bad at this one. I found myself going through entire days on one child sized cup of water. I kid you not. It’s hard to find time for anything with a newborn, drinking water included. I decided to try to overcome this after hearing that half the time you think you are hungry, you are actually dehydrated. I bought this fun bubblegum pink water jug that is the equivalent of 8 glasses a day and decorated it with some of my Pipsticks stickers. Now it is so adorable & fun, I can’t wait to fill it up every morning and get to drinkin’!

Life with Luna: 12 Weeks

week12

It’s incredible to me that I have a 3 month old baby – where  did the time go? I’m about to start back up at work, and I can’t lie. Not only am I sad, but so nervous. Will I be able to juggle every thing on my plate? This is the true test of mommyhood right here and I’m about to be thrown into it head first! But, back to Lu…

She is a new baby! Thanks to Zantac to alleviate her reflux, Luna and I have such fun and smooth days together. We have a little routine together that works so well. She still hates tummy time and gets bored of locations, so I’m constantly switching up where we do it: her playpen, the crib, the changing table, etc. Although she’s still not a fan, she’s tolerating it for sometimes 10-15 minutes straight and up to 30 minutes a day, so w00t! Turning my phone’s front facing camera towards her as she does it really helps.

She also loves to go out! This kid takes after her parents – she is her happiest out and about checking out new scenery and fresh faces. This makes us super happy because like I had mentioned before, cabin fever was setting in. Now I’m just trying to find the time to focus on me. I haven’t painted my nails since before she was born (I’ve just been sticking on decals), my eyebrows are a hot mess & I forgot what it is to style my hair (I’m lucky if I get to wash it during the week). When looking at all the things I have to accomplish in the week ahead, they take the back burner, but although not a priority when on paper, I do get bummed out when I look at my haggard reflection in the mirror.

For all those mama’s that read my blog, how did/do you find the time to pamper yourself?
Can this even be done during the first few months of baby-dom? Am I being naive to think it can be?
