Creating a Sacred Space

sacredspace

Things have been going on in my personal life that have been causing me a lot of stress and anguish that I’d rather keep off the blog (don’t worry, Luna is fine). However, this thing has made me realize how important it is to somehow balance myself and make sure I’m there for my daughter in every way possible. Life can get very hectic for all of us, and I wanted to create a little retreat for myself that I could go to when I have the time to just meditate or send thoughts and prayers. I consider myself a spiritual person, but honestly, this space can be anything for you, regardless of religion. Ultimately, it is just my little corner of peace from a sometimes very loud and stressful life.

As mentioned, I think everyone can benefit from a space like this, so I thought I would share how I created mine! First off, I’d like to say how hysterical I find it that I got almost every single piece at Hobby Lobby, which is known for its staunch, conservative views. I don’t agree with this one bit, but I’ll be completely honest here: I freaking LOVE their products and am borderline obsessed with the place. I’m a consumer, and I’m not ashamed of it. Sue me.

But on to the creating! As I mentioned, I took my happy-little-namaste-needing-self to Hobby Lobby a couple of weeks ago and started shopping for supplies. Although we own our own home, it has an open floor plan, which means not a whole lot of nooks and crannies for little spots like these. I actually had to move my hamper out of the way so that I could use this small corner of our bedroom, so I was looking for a small table. This one was perfect as it matched our bedroom’s decor, but had adequate tabletop space, which is needed! You could also add a little pouf or blanket so that you can comfortably sit in front of it, but I just don’t have the room so I sit on the floor.

I got two small dishes: one that holds all my crystal jewelry and pendulum, and another that holds my sage and palo santo. The jewelry is self explanatory. I wear it when I feel I need the extra inspiration or protection, depending on the crystal and the situation. As for the pendulum, it’s my favorite magical item. Find out more about them here.
The palo santo and sage are to cleanse my space and self of negative energies. This is a staple in my life. I smudge quite often, and an added benefit is that both smell so great. They leave my house smelling lovely (which is nice considering I barely have time for housework these days).
Again, if this isn’t your vibe at all, you can have little trinkets that remind you to be at peace or maybe bring you closer to a role model or a person that meant a lot to you (like your grandmother’s ring, for example). I also have an absolutely tiny (& adorable) Buddha bust that stands watch at the center of my table.

I Did a Thing: Manic Panic Tutorial

IMG_7380 copy

Being a new mama, I don’t have the time I used to. Perfect example is my salon adventures. Before I used to spend 4-6 hours at the salon every other month or so re-touching my ombre in whatever fashion color my little heart desired. I cannot afford to do that anymore (both in regards to time and finances), so I decided to be a little brave and do a thing. Namely, try to do my own ombre.

I got this idea from all my hours of watching  YouTube lately (mainly from this video), and it looked pretty doable so I decided to give it a shot. Before I go into what I did, I must stress from the bottom of my little heart that I advise you go to a salon to get your ombre initially done. This was quick and dirty for me because my hair was already bleached by my amazing stylist. Please don’t try to bleach your hair into an ombre style on your own. I’ve seen some pretty scary results.

My Geeky Valentine

I know a lot of you tout Valentine’s Day as a commercialized and ridiculous holiday. When I was single, I hated it. When I was in relationships, I hated it. It’s only now, as an old lady fart that I have grown to appreciate this holiday about love. Because it’s all around us, people. It doesn’t have to be romantic love – just a day to appreciate all the love surrounding you. Because trust me, every single one of us is circled by amazing people and animals that love us as much as we do them. So take the time out to step back and give thanks to the universe for that because it’s pretty special.

And aside from that, you get to wear pink! And hearts! The 14th really could be worse, amirite? Here’s my round up of pretty amazing geek-centric Valentine’s goodies;

vday

Moon of my life tank | Galentine’s Day card | Fictional character brooch
Parks & Rec wall hanging | Pixel heart clutch
Spooky Mulder pin | Star Wars pillowcases | Harry Potter brooch boyfriend

Life with Luna: There’s Still Good in the World

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

I fell in love with a certain shop on Etsy, Strangeways Studios. I’ve featured them several times on this blog for their adorable fandom baby onesies. I got Luna’s Christmas day onesie from them, and they sent me a few more onesies and goodies without me asking. So sweet! I’ve featured some of those as well if you remember. A few weeks pass, and they tell me they’ve sent me a little surprise that was inspired by my little Lulu bug. When I received the package, my eyes swelled with tears.

They had designed a onesie that will be sold in their store with the opening lyrics to Luna, the Smashing Pumpkins song I named my daughter after! We had discussed the reason behind the name in a conversation beforehand, and I was so happy that owner recognized the song, as not many people do. It was so absolutely touching. In fact, once Luna grows out of it, I’m pretty sure I’m going to shadowbox it.

I guess the reason I decided to share this story is because so many terrible and heartbreaking things are happening in the world on an everyday basis. Sometimes it’s pretty easy to let that black cloud consume you. However, every now and then, a little light shines through that dark cloud that changes your mind completely. There are still good people in this world, and to quote American Beauty, sometimes there is so much beauty in the world, I feel like I can’t take it.

So thank you, Strangeways Studios, for being that bright little sunbeam that forced its way from out of the clouds and into my life.
