My absolute favorite social media outlet is Instagram. I’ve always been the girl taking one too many pictures of everything, so this app was like a dream come true. Editing them, filtering them and sharing them with the world is just too much fun. Add the fact that you can find other users that share similar interests or are at the same events via hashtags, and I was sold. I love finding out about new IG accounts, so I figured I’d share some of my fav’s with all of you in case you are looking for some new users to follow or just some inspiration! pineapplesandcoffeecups; I would love to live in Adriana’s technicolor fun world. All her photos evoke bright sunshine, yummy desserts and cotton candy living. Anytime I’m feeling down in the dumps, I check out her feed. It’s so fun (& at times hilarious) that it’s impossible to stay bummed.
thepinkdiary; Absolutely gorgeous flat lays of both outfits, beauty products and just pretty things. I love her pastel palette and impeccable taste.
galadarling; One of my favorite bloggers, as well as Instagrammers. Gala believes in living a sparkly life full of fun and positivity and her photos reflect just that. Definitely another mood lifter.

The Geekie Awards Nominee

So I’m back from our amazing and dreamy BabyMoon in Islamorada, FL and I couldn’t have come home to better news. I found out this little ‘ol blog has been nominated for a Geekie Award for Best Website & Blog. Are you kidding me?! I nearly passed out and died. Actually, what I did do was scream and dance like a fool. After being a blogger for about 6-7 years and honing in on a specific focus (that would be geeky fashion/lifestyle) about a year ago, I can’t believe something like this is actually happening.

Once I get the information for voting, I will definitely share it with you all so you can help bring in those votes! Of course, I have all of you to thank. This blog would be nothing without your readership, support and interweb love. 2015 has been such an amazing year, I can’t really wrap my head around it.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the actual awards ceremony in Santa Monica as I will be 9 months pregnant and a mere 1 week from my due date, but I’m sure I’ll find the right person to go in my stead. Excitement is running through my body like electricity and I honestly keep thinking back to a reading I had late last year. The woman looked me right in the eyes and smiled, while saying, “You are on the brink of getting everything you’ve ever wanted.” I, of course, chuckled and tossed it to the side. I was in such a dark place and found it so hard to believe that anything good could be coming my way. Now, I’m starting to think she was right after all.

 Although I love the whole cosplay and family aspect of conventions, I have to say my favorite part is discovering new vendors or artists. As I’ve said many times before, I love supporting local or independent artists, so to me this is like Christmas. I can always find such amazing and unique goodies while at conventions and usually have the best conversations with those that have created them. Take a look at some of my favorite con swag pieces throughout the years.

1. Tara McPherson Exclusive LOST silkscreen; I think this is my prized Con possession. I am a huge LOST fan and an equally huge Tara McPherson fan. Naturally, when you put both of those together, there was a fangirl explosion within me that could not be contained. I was able to snag her limited print of Sun & Jin’s last moment at San Diego Comic Con a few years back and have displayed it proudly since. My house is full of Tara, but this one is my favorite.

Florida Supercon Swag

In keeping with the Supercon posts, I figure I would share with you all the great finds I was able to snag while attending a couple of weeks back. I’m always impressed with the immense talent I find hidden right under my nose at local conventions, and love supporting small businesses and independent artists. My home is full of fanart made by some amazing artists and I hope to just continue that trend. I can’t wait to further feature some of these goodies, but for now, I’m just too excited to not share.

1. Sailor Moon Stick; I could not believe the amazing quality and price of this beautiful wooden moon stick! Altruistic sells some great cosplay weapons that can be used as props for your next convention, or just to display. I had to take this beauty with me to display in Luna’s room! It’s going to look perfect on one of her shelving units! They have so many other gorgeous props from different fandoms to choose from – so definitely check out their site.

2. Ice Cream Dress; I’ve been trying to stay away from form fitting clothes lately, mainly because I know I won’t be able to really enjoy them until after little Luna makes her appearance. However, I could not resist the temptation when I saw this adorable ice cream dress from Shop Veralu. It is so bright and fun. It just screamed Meli, so naturally it had to come home with me. I tried it on recently and it still fits (although very snug)! I’m going to try to get at least one use out of this baby before Luna grows me out of it!

3. My Little Pony Clutch; This is another stellar find from Shop Veralu! What I love the most about this shop is that it is located in The Florida Keys (which is one of my favorite spots ever) and handmade by the absolutely endearing and talented Lu Annen. I was lucky enough to chat with her both on and off camera for Fashionably Nerdy, and I can’t wait to feature her bright and fun fashions in an outfit post. Of course, I couldn’t go home with out this perfect little clutch that can be used to brighten any occasion, from wedding guest to date night.

The Unicorn Files

I absolutely love the geek girl movement that is sweeping the Internets, whether it be in the form of blogs, like The Nerdy Girlie, or books, like The Fangirls Guide to the Galaxy. That’s why I was immediately drawn to The Unicorn Files project. The Unicorn Files is a photo book full of beautiful images taken of true geek girls in their natural environment: their homes. Its goal is to represent this community and expose others to the fact that geek girls, in fact, do exist and are a vital part of geek culture.

For that reason, I knew I had to contact the project’s creator, Terra Clarke Olsen, to get to know her and the project a little better. Check out what she had to say;

1. Can you tell us a little about your project, The Unicorn Files, and where you got the inspiration. 

The idea came to me over two years ago at the height of the “fake geek girl” nonsense. After a year, I finally got the nerve to pitch the idea to Nate, and he loved it! “The Unicorn Files” is in reference to a term I resent being called (which I touch on in a Seattle Weekly article). Few months later and here we are!
