Being Geek Chic: Vacation Outfits

No matter where you are going these last few days of summer for a little R&R, there are always ways to incorporate a little geekiness into your outfits. Now, I know I may be weird, but one of my favorite things to do is to plan vacation outfits. I don’t get to do much of that lately since vacationing isn’t as spontaneous or consistent as before, but when I do, it’s like a form of therapy. Plus, it makes it so much easier to get ready in the morning and get to having fun when you already know exactly what you are going to wear!

To show you how easy it is to incorporate your fandoms into your vacation wear, I put together 4 different looks for 4 different destinations.

beach

It’s been so hot down here in Miami lately, that a beach vacation would be at the bottom at my list at the moment. But for those of you up north dying for some sunshine and tropical cocktails (lets face it, I’m always down for those), just pair a geeky one piece with a pair of shorts and a large hat to shade you from those dangerous rays, and you’ll be good to go! I was able to put together this look incorporating geekdom with all three elements – who says you have to stick to just one fandom? Nay, I say!

festival

It’s always been a dream of mine to attend a music festival outside the state, namely: Coachella. I feel like I would probably pass out from heat and feel completely disgusting, but it would be worth it for that incredible line up. I put together this rockin’ outfit for those of you fellow music lovers. I believe the best kind of music is live music, and you’d definitely be able to enjoy it in a fandom tank (special shout out if it ties in with an amazing punk band, like this great Potter/Ramones mashup) and stretchy ripped pants. And, of course, no festival look is complete without a flower crown and big ‘ol shades!

Pants; Macy’s

Life with Luna: Little Bear Butt

IMG_8965

If there’s something I love more than dressing my little one, it is supporting other geeky mamas like myself. That’s why I adore shopping small and getting the majority of Luna’s wardrobe from Etsy. One of my favorite shops is Little Bear Butt, as it’s not only run by one of these geeky mamas, but she’s also from South Florida so it is a win/win.

She makes the most adorable shorties and pants for your little ones that span the whole spectrum of fandom: from Disney princesses to Hogwarts wizards. I’ve been buying stuff from this shop since before little Luna was born, if you can believe it, and the love only continues to grow. They are so soft and stretchy, which is perfect for these little growing bodies. Luna loves all her shorties and pants, but we are especially showcasing these two fun designs today!

First Travel with Baby

IMG_8656

I know we didn’t hop on a plane, but at 8 months, we decided to take our first vacation with the little one. It was a short 2 hour drive up north to the West Coast of Florida where we basked in the sun’s rays for a weekend in Marco Island. We met up with family and had a really good time. I was dreading a possible disaster, since you tend to hear a lot of horror stories about traveling with a baby, but things were relatively uneventful.

We had to change some of our usual beach habits: getting used to the fact that we will not be able to complete a nice cold adult beverage in one sitting (mine would become warm and need multiple ice refills due to it just sitting there for sometimes hours untouched), one of us having to head back to the hotel room to put her to sleep if she was resistant on falling asleep on the beach (aka; every time), and sand eating. So much sand eating.

Nerdy Must Haves

collage

1. X Files Pin; In a world that is being overrun by enamel pins, it’s nice to see that fandoms are still being represented in popular trends. One of my favorite pin makers, Sweet & Lovely, kills it with this monochrome X-Files one. I personally love that you can put this on your lapel, denim jacket or as flair to your favorite bag, and it is appropriate for so many occasions. Hell, put it on your dress at the next wedding you attend – you simply can’t go wrong with a little paranormal love.

2. Harry Potter Kids Dress; In my constant hunt for all things baby geek, I noticed that one of my favorites, Linda of 1138 Clothing, now offers a Harry Potter-inspired toddler dress! This is also made in big girl sizes, so this means that we can potentially have a little “Mommy and Me” action in the future. The design is so absolutely adorable, complete with a peter pan collar (I’m such a sucker for those), oversized glasses logo and a flared house skirt. You may see me wearing one of these very, very soon. 😉

3. Bookish Dress; Can you tell I’ve been on a girly kick lately? I am absolutely loving this sweet little dress from Jesiiii. She usually is a purveyor of the most kitschy and cute designs (sometimes on wood block, sometimes on pins), but she just released this number for preorder. At $60, it’s not a bad deal for such a unique and custom piece. If Belle is your inner Disney princess, you gotta snag this bookish dress!

4. Covergirl Katy Kat Matte Lipsticks; I found out about Katy Perry’s latest collaboration with Covergirl through YouTube. I saw Tasha Leelyn swatching the entire line, and now I’m super intrigued! Although I haven’t tried any of them out, I decided to add them to this list because they looked so good while swatched. I like that they have some bold colors, which is not the norm for drugstore makeup, and they are a demi-matte, which shouldn’t dry out your lips too bad. The packaging is also so killer – I love the big bold typography on white. As I’m writing this post, I’m already thinking about picking up a few at my Target run later. If I do, I’ll make sure to swatch them for you guys!
