Cuddle+Kind

Cuddle + Kind dolls2 print

As I get ready to enter the world of mommy-dom, certain causes feel closer to me than ever. Naturally, I’ve always loved children as I work with them and their families every day but now there is another component factoring in. I’m going to have one of these little things and I will officially be part of a family. I’m sure my husband and I will do anything possible to make Luna’s life better and assure that she is happy and healthy. That’s why I was instantly drawn to Cuddle+Kind.

The brand was created by the parents of 3 children, Jennifer and Derek Woodgate, on a mission to feed children in need. After viewing a documentary on the devastating impact of childhood hunger on millions of children around the world, it inspired them to help. With a background in health, they recognized the crucial role nutrition plays in a child’s development and thus, Cuddle+Kind was born. For every Cuddle+Kind doll purchased, the company provides 10 meals to hungry children around the world through giving partners, World Food Program USA and Children’s Hunger Fund.

And look at those gorgeous dolls! Each is handcrafted in Peru and you can tell they are made with all the love in the world. They would add the perfect splash of color to your child’s nursery or room, and would naturally become one of their favorite cuddle buddies. Hell, they may become one of mine!

What I Wore: Jedi Academy

photo 3

So I know what you may be thinking. Fall? Miami doesn’t have seasons. Isn’t it summer year round? Yes, my friends. This is true. But something happens naturally within me around this time of year, and sure enough, it happened again just a couple of weeks ago. The second the calendar flips through to September, something within me changes. Something just feels a little different and I know it’s that time of year: FALL. Time of pumpkin spice, less rain and better clothes.

Her Universe has definitely gotten the “better clothes” memo because their new Fall items are amazing. Now I haven’t gone “back to school” in what seems like ages, but this varsity style Jedi cardigan would be my go-to if I was still roaming those halls. It is absolutely adorable as it is lightweight, so it’s perfect for the early Fall months if you actually get real seasons or year round for us Miami-ans. It also looks great paired with your typical Fall colors like olive green and mustard, which I am rocking in this post. I decided to go for a full blown homage to Star Wars, so I swiped my hubby’s awesome baseball cap and the outfit instantly reminded me of attending a sporting event with cold beer in hand. MMmmm, beer. I will have you soon enough.

Sonny Angels Addiction

photo (17)

I first stumbled on these adorable little naked angel dolls while searching for nursery inspiration on Instagram. Note to expecting mama’s: just say no. You’ll end up in debt before you know it. But anywho…I found these cute figures being used as children’s decor in almost every photo, and I instantly fell in love. If you know me, you know I’m not really a “collector,” but these I MUST have. I immediately ordered a few from Amazon and they came in their corresponding blind boxes. The thrill.

Geeky Baby Shower: Fandom Elements

IMG_5101

I had my absolutely amazing baby shower last month at Earls in Dadeland Mall. The venue was beyond perfection and the staff even better. But what really made the shower special (aside from all the love in the air), was the little fandom touches I made in decor.I figured I would share these touches with all of you in case you are wondering how you can incorporate some geekiness into more formal events and parties. And yes, I planned and orchestrated my entire baby shower. I’m a control freak and I do what I want. Plus, I think I’m pretty darn good at it. 😉

For those of you wondering what I was wearing, my dress was from Dorothy Perkins and all my accessories (including flower hair pins) and shoes were from Forever 21. My entire outfit cost me no more than $80!

I knew I wanted there to be a geeky vibe in decor throughout the shower, but wanted to make sure it was subtle. I decided to go with writing some of my favorite quotes from some of my favorite fandoms on little chalkboard easels or place cards. The easels were from Target, while the chalkboard place cards were from Hobby Lobby. I sharpened up on my chalkboard art skills by looking through Pinterest and copying my favorite designs and layouts. Although time consuming, it was relaxing and I honestly was very surprised with the results. Word to the wise, don’t use regular chalk – a chalk pencil will give you much better lines and control especially if you will be writing/drawing on design elements as small as mine. Each of these easels or place cards were placed on the tables, along with a mason jar full of baby’s breath and gold-glittered antlers, which were my homage to Hannibal. I finished the centerpiece look with a little gold animal to tie in a childlike element all the while sitting on top of a wooden slab.

Although I could have gone crazy with geekiness, I wanted our shower to be simple and modern. Our venue was already very aesthetically pleasing to my style so I let it speak for itself. However, all the fellow geeks in attendance definitely took note of what I incorporated, which is exactly what I was hoping for and everyone else just found the quotes sweet. Overall, it was an awesome day with awesome people that I will cherish forever!

What I Wore: Doctor Who?

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

South Florida’s 3rd Geek Girl Brunch was held yesterday and it was such a blast! We were lucky to be hosted by the fabulous Bad Boys of England Pub in Dania Beach, FL and even had our own little private room to get all wibbly wobbly and timey wimey. Aside from the fun surrounding the event, I had a blast styling some pretty amazing Doctor Who fashion! It’s not easy getting ready for our Geek Girl Brunches lately, so I thank the heavens for stretchy skater dresses. They give me the comfort I am really desiring lately, while still accenting my belly in the cutest way! This one by KYOCAT Clothing is beyond adorable. Being in the geek fashion world, it can get tiring to see the same Doctor Who dresses at events, so when I saw this beautiful ribcage design with two beating Doctor hearts, I immediately fell in love. I always support independent designers and Marlo behind KYOCAT makes some pretty stunning pieces. I am personally lusting after her Sailor Moon designs!

And this hat. Lets talk about the amazingness of it, shall we? I adore all kinds of hair party, so I naturally had to snag this beautiful TARDIS floppy hat by Geeky U. The craftsmanship is beyond, and it really helps shield from the insane Miami sun. I can’t wait to wear it for what’s left of our summer – how cute would this look paired with a bikini?
