What I Wore; Loony

IMG_4442

Another month, another super fun Geek Girl Brunch theme! This month’s was YA Badass Bitches, and we had such a great time honoring our favorite brave ladies of literature. I went a little off the beaten path and decided to honor Luna Lovegood. She was not afraid to be herself, and illustrated that sometimes the strangest of people make the best of friends. I also have a special connection with her character, and taking home her wand a couple of years ago during one of my last visits to The Wizarding World (find the full story here) solidified that. I knew I had to finally pay her homage and hang up my Gryffindor tie for one afternoon.

Life with Luna: This Kid

IMG_4215

Hello fellow freaks and geeks! Good news: I’m alive! My schedule has drastically changed, causing me to not have a lot of time to post frequently, but fear not! I will still have a post a week – you can’t get rid of me that easy. 😉

IMG_4340

With that said, I now appreciate my weekends even more. I try my best not to schedule too many extra-curriculars so that I can spend them with the people that matter the most: my little family. Luna has become increasingly difficult to dine with (what do you mean I can’t grab everything on the table and toss it all over the place?), and just wants to run, run…run every time we are in a public space (and don’t try to hold her hand…), but we still find the special moments within the maddening ones. You have to, amirite?

Best Shops for Disney Outfits

Now that we are headed to Disney more often and getting immersed in that culture (Luna is full blown obsessed with Mickey), it’s been really fun trying to find unique and awesome outfits for our trips to the parks. I get asked a lot where I have found some of the things either Luna or myself wear, so I figured I would compile a little list of my favorite stores with you all!

CakeWorthy

I think this is the first shop I stumbled upon that sold “hip” Disney wears. I fell in love with their very 90’s grunge flannels with famous Disney character quotes on the back, and have since seen the design being ripped off in larger chains (*cough* Hot Topic *cough*).

LostBros

Lost Bros Trading Co

I didn’t discover this shop until the week before we left for Disney, and I was so bummed. Their styles are so incredible! I also smiled a whole lot whenever I saw one of them walk by me at the Magic Kingdom – and boy were there a lot! My personal favorite is the Ariel tee because it includes two of my favorite things: The Little Mermaid and champagne!

What I Wore; Dream Big, Princess

IMG_4088

That newfound love of Disney through the eyes of my child has given me a whole new fandom to explore in regards to outfits, and man, am I having fun. I love that you can wave your freak flag high and proud at Disney and no one bats an eyelash. In fact, it is encouraged. Whenever that is the case, I take this privilege and run with it. Case in point: I bought the most ridiculously large and loud Minnie ears and rocked them for the day at Magic Kingdom. I can’t wait to delve deeper into Disney fashion, but for now I can state with 100% certainty that comfy leggings are the way to go when you are visiting the parks with an insanely active toddler.

Life with Luna: Tiny Wizard

IMG_3980

Although this would mean we birthed a Hufflepuff {gasp!}, my little Luna reminds me a lot of Newt Scamander. She loves animals: all of them. She gets beyond excited whenever she sees a dog or a cat (just recently even said “cat” for the first time), and is a big fan of nature in general. She squeals on our walks whenever she sees an especially lush or tall tree – bonus points if it is swaying in the wind. There’s just so much wonder in those eyes, and I know this is something that is found in all children. Only a certain handful of adults get a chance to carry this with them as they age, and Newt is definitely one of them. I hope she can fit into that elite little group down the line as well.

Onesie; c/o Younglings NYC
Pants; Target {no longer available}
Denim blouse; Old Navy {similar}
Wand; Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Can I also share how magical it truly was to see Luna holding one of my wands? I can’t wait until we can take her to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and she can fully grasp the context!
