Organic Bloom Style DIY

I have been in love with Organic Bloom frames for as long as I can remember, but definitely not with their prices or accessibility (or lack thereof). That’s why when I saw this DIY idea, I had to give it a go. Then, I noticed all the hateful comments on said DIY and all other repins from what I imagine are proud Organic Bloom owners? Or representatives? Either way, it made me start to feel differently about the brand (these comments have since been removed).

It rubbed me in such a bad way that these commenters kept saying there were no after photos of this project because it was such an awful idea that I had to do it. And post an after picture. In fact, several. And guess what? It looks great! So neener Organic Bloom – this is more than a worthy DIY project for those of us that want the look but without the dollar signs. Photojojo even posted a similar craft!
Plus, you can find more affordable alternatives at this Etsy shop, as well as at Cut It Out.

What do you need?

– Wooden Plaques (found mine at Michael’s)
– your favorite photos
– Mod Podge
– foam brush

What do you think?

Perspective

via; Pinterest

With all the stress of my exam, as well as additional (& unnecessary I may add) stressors bleeding into my day-to-day, my mood and judgement have been foggy. It’s been very easy to get caught up in the madness (mainly brought on by overthinking and catastrophizing in my case), and forget to stop and smell the roses. Sure, I did what many people would not. I decided to start from scratch, and I knew that would entail many a sacrifice, but my mental health has in many ways thanked me for it. I am happy. I love what I do. And I am making a difference. I can’t tell you how many amazing moments I have experienced in the last year while on the job – some even moving me to tears. How many people can say that about their job? I’m lucky.

Motto for 2012

At the end of every year, I like to pick a motto for the upcoming one. It doesn’t always have to be a deep thought, it could be as silly and fun as 2010‘s, as long as it motivates me to ring in a better, brighter year. And the quote above belongs to 2012. When I stumbled upon it while looking through ye olde Pinterest, it really spoke to me. It wasn’t the first time I had come across the quote (or the amazingness that was Eleanor Roosevelt), but it was the first time it resonated.

Here’s to letting my heart take the reigns!

I hope all of you have an amazing New Years weekend – celebrate with all the bells and whistles, but remember to be safe (please don’t drink and drive)! Let’s welcome 2012 with open arms and lots of hope!

This is Halloween

It’s no secret on this blog that I adore Halloween and it is my favorite holiday. I usually wait until October rolls around to start the themed postings, but I just couldn’t help myself. In my world, it’s officially Fall (even though we have no seasons here in Miami) and that means I can start planning all the fun decor for this year’s spooky festivities. Last year, I started decorating my home on October 1st and was sorely disappointed when no other homes in my neighborhood followed suit. For the entire month. For that reason, I feel pressure to make my house look even more spooky this year! I want it to stand out and really reflect our love of the holiday. Screw you, haters! Plus, this year I’ll make sure to have plenty of candy in stock as to not have a repeat case of the debacle that was candygate 2010.

Here are some of my favorite ideas so far:

Squeeworthy: Dorothy Perkins

As if I need another reason to spend copious amounts of money shopping while I’m in London, I stumble upon this lovely site thanks to my evil mistress, Pinterest. Dorothy Perkins: land of perfect Melificent dresses. Seriously, I don’t know which beautifully classic, elegant, Audrey Hepburn inspired dress I want more. As if the website wasn’t tempting enough, I just google map-ed the nearest location to our flat while we are on vacation, and one lies merely a 5 minute walk away. I am so screwed.
