Stick Shifts & Safety Belts

2951688721_fbfe3e0d15_oThis is my father-in-law’s 1977 Chevy Custom Deluxe. And we love it.

It’s become kind of a ritual for the hubs and I to take it Friday through Sunday every week. This weekend was especially awesome because we decided to drive it to Broward to spend the day with friends, which marked the farthest we had ever driven it together.

Coming from a family where cars are a big part of our lives, I find riding in vintage cars so special. The way they drive, the way they smell, the manual mechanics…all these things may be big detractors for others, but they never cease to make me smile. There was something almost hopelessly romantic about driving with my husband down the freeway with the wind blowing through our hair as we bounced up & down on the bench seat listening to our favorite tunes. It felt like we had been transported to another time. It was nice. It was easy. It was simple.

These are the things that make life beautiful to me. The little things. The simple pleasures. All of life should be this effortless.

I heart you. Thanks for a great weekend.

I actually drove the truck to work today. I ran out of time to switch it out, so I’ll trade trucks tonight on my way home. <3

Awww, this post has me smiling. Can’t quite relate to you on liking cars period (I’m forever traumatized from trying to learn stick)…but with the way you described the ride and the experience with your hubby, it DOES sound so romantic. And I just adore your last sentence after the video…we should all be so lucky to live our lives like that.

I may have to find myself a guy who likes vintage cars now.

Nice to see you in action! 😉

This is an older post of yours but I just read it now, so I’m commenting on it a bit late. I remember your dad dropping you off at elementary school one day in his red vintage car… =)
