On Friday night, we joined friends to see District-9. I had very high expectations (I think I’ve spoken about this movie a million times on the blog!), and I am so happy to say that they met and at times, exceeded them. I thought it was such a beautiful film. I’ve heard some negativity towards the film, but I think that’s due to people having a set idea of what to expect. This movie is not what you think and that’s what makes it so wonderful!
To me, this movie was really moving. The hubs and I were genuinely affected by it and couldn’t stop talking about it on our drive home. We even had a bit of a hard time falling and staying asleep that night because the movie was still running through our minds. It was clearly comparing the aliens’ plight to real-life situations that we are all aware of, such as apartheid. It made you hate the human race and all the evil things we are capable of. And our “hero” was anything but – many times his actions had us all yelling at the screen and most definitely not to root him on. I loved how as the movie progressed, he became less and less selfish – realizing all the horrible things his company and civilization as a whole did to the alien race, who were just lost souls that wanted to go back to their lives on their home planet. All in all, it was a beautifully told story. I highly recommend it, but please keep in mind that it is so much more than your typical “Aliens Invade Earth!” story. And there is my spoiler-free review (jeez, these are hard!).
One birthday is never enough. The one astrological sign that believes this the most is definitely my trusty Leo’s. My good friend Elissa decided to celebrate her birthday over two weekends – you may remember last week’s highlights from her house party (complete w/ delicious Bacardi Dragon Berry). This weekend was all about the food & beer, which happens to be one of my favorite pairings! We headed to West Palm Beach to have dinner & drinks at Yardhouse. Afterwards, we ended up at the Cruzan Rum Bar, which was full of grade A Palm Beach douche. However, they did have the most yummy concoction ever: Voodoo Juice, which was served in a fun little plastic beach pail. Best part? Found the recipe!
Onward ho with yet another week!
[cryptic] I hope it will bring us good news. [/cryptic]

I loved the movie, too. I thought it was such an amazing story. For the first time, the aliens were not threatening invaders or humandkind’s ally. Instead, they were the victims. I also had a hard time coping with the issues brought up by the movie. It literally left me in tears.
