I’m sure all of you have seen the trailer for the new Blake Lively flick, The Age of Adaline. The film revolves around a woman that somehow was able to remain 29 years old for almost 8 decades. She manages to keep this a secret until she falls in love. The rest can get a little dicey. Naturally, a film spanning 8 decades is going to focus on fashion and The Age of Adaline does just that.
I thought it would be fun to show you all how you too can fool people into thinking you are ageless with your fashion – all it takes is incorporating a few key pieces from different decades into your modern wardrobe. Check it out!
70’s.
I tend to gravitate towards 60’s and 70’s styles. I love the more flared silhouettes and free flowing fabrics. Not to mention all the fun hair accessories! With that said, it’s easy to incorporate these looks into a modern outfit. I personally think this would make a great music festival outfit (think SunFest, South Florida locals…). Pair a basic crop top with a pair of extreme flare jeans, add a fun flower headpiece and your most comfortable pair of sandals and boom! You got a retro modern look that would make anyone flash the peace sign your way.

80’s.
The 80’s are tricky. They came back for a hot minute, and then disappeared once more into a puff of sparkly neon. The 80’s were a time of excess and that was totally evident in the over the top outfits that came out of the decade. If you want to give a little homage to the 80’s without looking like a caricature, then try pairing fun pieces in neutral colors. I put together my favorite black tulle skirt, which gives a very 80’s vibe, with a heather unicorn crop top. I only added a touch of neon in the form of an accessory (statement necklace), and finished the look with some combat boots because what else are you going to wear a girly tulle skirt with? 😉

90’s.
Now, I have a soft spot for the 90’s. I was a 90’s tween/teen, so I relate the most to it on a very emotional level. I still listen to 90’s music, love 90’s TV and movies, and have a penchant for its fashion comeback lately. When I want to incorporate it into my wardrobe, I immediately think grunge. Just grab a vintage band tee with a floral pair of shorts. This immediately gives that low key rocker vibe and when paired with the same pair of boots as pictured above, you basically took a ride on the TARDIS. I completed the look with a slouchy crochet beanie as homage to the 90’s skull cap. Rock on.
How would you like to win some of Adaline’s beauty secrets? I’m giving away 5 prize packs that include a makeup bag and a set of vintage barrettes! To enter, comment on this post with what your favorite decade is and how you like to incorporate it into your modern wardrobe. Winners will be chosen next week, 4/27, at random. Good luck, everyone, and in the meantime, check out the film beginning 4/24!

I kind of go back and forth…I’m a big 70’s fan (laid back but still feminine, braids!) but I think the pinup 50’s style is so fun! Lately I’ve been on a dress buying binge, and I tend to keep buying ones with fuller skirts, hahah!

My favorite decades are the 40s-50s. I already incorporate them by wearing vintage or vintage-esque clothing. 🙂

I loved the fitted waist and flared skirts of the 50’s since they are so pretty and also very flattering. My 2nd favourite is probably 60’s mod. looks.

My favorite decade is the 80’s! The music, the day-glo, and the CARTOONS (IE most of my shirts are 80’s nostalgia inspired heehee)! Loved it!
