Life with Luna: Brave Girl Boutique

img_0170-copy

In my continued search for awesome geeky baby threads, I often stumble on cute onesies, but it is so difficult to find nicer geeky items. When I visited Megacon Tampa Bay last month, I was completely floored to find exactly what I had been searching for. Brave Girl Boutique offers fandom-inspired dresses, skirts and accessories that are one of a kind, and I instantly fell in love. I purchased both a peasant-style dress and tank dress that were Doctor Who-inspired (of course), and I loved chatting with owner, Jesse. Her peasant style dresses are meant to be worn off-the-shoulder, but Luna had different plans. What I love the most is that she can grow into this style. As Jesse mentioned, as she gets older, the dress can be worn as a tunic top, so it is a special piece that will be part of her wardrobe for a long time.

I can’t wait to continue shopping from this boutique and build Luna a fiercely feminine fandom wardrobe (say that 5 times quick!). With the holidays approaching, definitely check out Brave Girl Boutique for all the petite geeky ones in your life!

What I Wore: Meeting My Doctor

img_9712

Megacon Tampa Bay was full of really amazing moments, but what drew me to the convention in the first place was David Tennant. If you are a Doctor Who fan, or whovians, as we affectionately call ourselves, you have your doctor. I actually had a hard time getting into the show, and it wasn’t until the 10th doctor that I started my love affair. Everyone has this moment. Everyone loves one doctor that gives them the warm fuzzies. The one you want to run away with on a TARDIS in all wibbly wobbly timey wimey-ness. David Tennant is that for me.

Anjolee + Date Night

We realized sometime last month that our last date day/night was in the summer! When you are parents, things start to add up and before you know it, months have passed by since you have had a nice time for yourself. It’s so important to keep going out on dates and enjoy your partner even when there is a tiny one around, so the hubs and I try to do so as often as possible. Unfortunately, this time around, life got the best of us.

We decided to head out to celebrate the hubs’ birthday and make our best attempt at being cool. We had tapas at a Brazilian restaurant and then went bar hopping. My favorite bar we stopped at? The Anderson. Although I’m sure it gets slammed and full of hipsters, it was so nice to visit on a Sunday afternoon. I totally appreciated the tropical Miami vibe complete with swinging hammocks and brightly colored walls. The cocktails were also to die for, so that helps.

Cosplay: SnotGirl

As most of you know by now, I attended MegaCon Tampa Bay last weekend and it was ridiculously fun! It was the first time I was away (overnight) from Luna, so I’m not going to lie: I cried as we drove away from my house, but I was proud of myself for enjoying a little bit of “me time.”  I knew I wanted to cosplay, but when I travel, I don’t like to do anything too elaborate.

I recently got very obsessed with the new comic from Image, SnotGirl. If you aren’t familiar, it’s about a fashion blogger that portrays herself as being totally put together and fabulous, but really has raging allergies and zero self confidence. Of course, there is a lot more to the story, but I don’t want to spoil it for you all because I totally recommend you all start reading it RIGHT NOW. But, anyways, the second I started reading this comic, I knew I wanted to cosplay as Lottie. I mean, a fashion blogger? DUH.

This had to be my easiest cosplay to date. I had everything I needed in my closet, except for the wig, which I scored through Amazon Prime and a box of Kleenex, that I picked up that very morning. Sure, not a lot of people knew who I was (shout out to the two guys that got super jazzed to see it), but I absolutely loved it. I’ll probably rock this cosplay again, and try to feature her other outfits. Thanks to everyone that showed me love about it on Instagram!

Witchy Woman

img_1964

A lot of you ask me about my spirituality and practices when you see some of my social media posts. Crystals became a pretty important part of my life about two years ago. I know I often cite this time as being a hard one, but well, it was. I felt very anxious, uncertain and lonely. It wasn’t easy.

A friend of mine suggested going to the “local witch store” (also known as metaphysical), and I’ve been hooked ever since. For those of you not in the know, crystals are said to have properties that can help with different areas, such as anxiety, success, fertility, etc. When there’s a full moon, you charge them under the moonlight and sage them regularly to make sure their energy is clear. I think of them as my little totems, and I definitely have favorites.
