What I Wore: Cursed Child

Processed with VSCO with e1 preset

Like every other good little Potterhead, I went to the midnight release party of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child script at my local independent bookstore. As if attending another midnight release party after nearly 9 years wasn’t exciting enough, it also fell on my birthday weekend (since Potter and I share one – humble brag). How amazing is that? I knew I had to wear something really special, so I got this crop top custom made by Jessica of DressicaDresses. You may remember I featured her shop as one of my favorite Supercon vendors. It was absolutely perfect and the evening was even more so! Sure, it was ridiculously hot in the bookstore and the lines at the bar were out of hand (yes, our indie bookstore also has a bar…and a cafe – we even had live music), but it was such a throwback to those good old Potter days of my past and a great way to celebrate another year of living the geek girl lifestyle.

Now, what did you all think of the script?
I’ll be reviewing it at length on the blog soon!

Florida Supercon 2016: Favorite Cosplays

In my final Florida Supercon post, check out some of my favorite cosplays that I saw showcased on the exhibit floor. There were some pretty killer ones this year – from families all the way to pets! Everyone seemed to want to get in on the action this time around!

Summer in Clinique Food Truck & Swatches!

IMG_8686

In what I thought was the most fun promotion ever, Clinique took to the streets in a food truck to hand out delicious popsicles and makeup from their new Summer in Clinique line. They hit different malls all over South Florida, but I joined them at The Falls. Unfortunately, the event was rained out, but that didn’t stop them from moving under cover and continuing the party.

The popsicles were absolutely delicious and provided by Chloe’s Soft Serve Fruit Co., which pride themselves on “keeping it real” with just fruit, water and a touch of organic cane sugar. Yes please! The makeup was also on par, with the truck showcasing some of the newest lippies from the Pop line!

Lucky for you all, I got to delve deeper and swatch the different shades so that I can share what they look like on with you guys!

The Pop Lacquer shades offer a luscious pop of liquid, high-shine color in one, full-coverage coat. It has a built-in primer that helps the color glide on effortlessly and is advertised to last for up to 6 hours. I have to say, I wore one of these shades during my vacation, and it did not last that long, but it was really beautiful. It’s been awhile since I’ve worn something so sticky and tacky, so it took some getting used to, but I love the fresh and youthful look it gives you. So perfect for a beach day!

Miami’s SaberCraft

IMG_7153

As a new mom, I’m always looking for new ways to exercise and work on my fitness. Right now, I’m attending a spinning class every weekend but it’s really far (but so affordable!). That’s why I was so happy when I found out that Miami had its own Jedi Academy (amongst other reasons, of course). South Florida doesn’t tend to be very fandom-friendly, so I was floored. The owners of SaberCraft, Alfred and Santiago, are a total joy and wanted to make sure that they brought quality combat techniques to Miami’s chapter after training with San Francisco’s Golden Gate Knights. The classes are more choreography-based, so they teach you the moves you loved to watch on screen. There is also a little Hatha Yoga incorporated since there is a definite overlap with those teachings of The Force.

I had the opportunity to take a class along with my chapter of Geek Girl Brunch last month and I can say that it was the most fun I’ve had in a long time. We initially started the class with a quick (but peaceful) meditation and then got to start learning moves with a foam saber. This way, everything was as safe as possible while we got used to maneuvering with our peers. The masters level students were also in attendance to help us, and we would often split into partners where they would instruct us 1:1. It was beyond amazing, and surprisingly empowering. When I would flow through the 6 moves in succession successfully, it was such a rush!

What I Wore: I Know My Value

IMG_5460

Can someone start playing “The Final Countdown?” Because that’s where I’m at right now! In these pictures, I was a pleasantly plump, but happy 35 weeks. Things are starting to ache and bother, but I’m still pretty petite which allows me a little more energy and mobility than most. The hubs and I had one of our usual foodie day dates in Wynwood, and we were able to visit some pretty amazing little markets, such as Flavorish & Marky’s, and had lunch at Ms. Cheezious (do you know they now offer their sandwiches on gluten free bread???). We picked up so many delicious little treats and fantasized about having picnics with our little one in the future.

As usual, Jordan Dene’s tanks keep me super comfy. I love that I don’t have to rely on maternity and can still let my geek flag fly as often as possible. I’m loving her new line of tees – this one being a quote from Agent Carter. Make sure to check out her site – it is chock full of goodies for yourself AND the geeky little ones in your life!
