Lovable Friday: Mute Math

lovablefriday1

First off, I’d like to say that I’m super sorry for the lack of updates this week. I’ve said it a million times over, but I really wish I could blog for a living. My actual living got in the way and I found myself feeling pretty overwhelmed with everything I had to juggle. Unfortunately, that meant that the blog had to take a backseat. But I hope to be back in action again starting today!

AWE MuteMath

This is not your usual Lovable Friday – no list today. Just lots and lots of Mute Math love! For those of you not in the know, Mute Math is a new band from New Orleans that I am not afraid to say is the best live act out there. Seriously. Now, you may listen to their albums and not be very impressed, but I can tell you if you attend one of their shows, you will be blown away.

New Moon Soundtrack

bella-poster

I realize that this poster is fan made, but I think it’s lovely and really sets the tone for the film. In this case, I think Twilight fans should be hired on as art directors! Anyways, the release of New Moon is almost a month away but to help us Twihards make it through until then, they were generous enough to release the soundtrack tomorrow! To wet our appetite even further, Myspace released the album on Twilight’s official page yesterday. However, not all songs were available in their entirety, but I was able to get a gist of what we can expect to hear. Here is the tracklisting:

Meet Me On The Equinox – Death Cab for Cutie
Friends – Band of Skulls
Hearing Damage – Thom Yorke
Possibility – Lykke Li
A White Demon Love Song – The Killers
Satellite Heart – Anya Marina
I Belong to You (New Moon Remix) – Muse
Roslyn – Bon Iver & St. Vincent
Done All Wrong – Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Monsters – Hurricane Bells
The Violet Hour – Sea Wolf
Shooting the Moon – OK Go
Slow Life – Grizzly Bear
No Sound But The Wind – Editors
New Moon (The Meadow) – Alexandre Desplat

For those of you not familiar with the books, New Moon is the darkest of the four. Edward leaves Bella for what he believes is her own good, rendering her comatose. That’s when Jacob Black swoops in for the kill, so to speak. That is, until he discovers a secret of his own which causes him to pull away from Bella as well. This leaves Bella feeling ultimately abandoned by both the love of her life and her best friend. Basically, not fun stuff. So I was expecting music that set that kind of mood: dark and emo. I’m really happy to say that they did a pretty good job. The Thom Yorke track is spectacular and really lends the album some sort of music credibility. Slow Life by Grizzly Bear also seemed perfect to me along with The Editors’ slow & haunting track. But something that got me really horribly upset? Muse’s remixed I Belong To You. First off, this is one of my favorite tracks off their new album, The Resistance, so I was already weary when I heard it was getting remixed for this movie. Ugh, I just think it’s terrible. It honestly sounds like I opened Garage Band and put random sounds at random moments throughout the song not even bothering to make it flow in any way, shape or form. They totally massacred it!

However, I’m still really excited for this one because I truly believe it is going to be light years better than the first film. I’ve decided to re-read the book in preparation because it’s been some time since I read the entire saga and some details are a bit hazy. I want to make sure I can be annoying enough to spot all the little differences as well as appreciative of the moments they get dead on.

What do you guys think of the soundtrack?
Are you excited for the premiere of New Moon or am I the only nerdly fangirl?

Weekend Highlights: Rock ‘n Roll Road Trip

friday13998960651_053134a94c

Friday afternoon we started our road trip to see Muse (& U2) play Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium with some of our closest friends. I couldn’t have been more excited – it was my first live Muse experience and although I wish it would have been a headlining show, I was happy just to be in their presence for their 8-song set. They were mind-blowing. Matt Bellamy, if you are out there, I wouldn’t mind having your tiny powerhouse British babies. The set list was as follows:

Uprising
Map of the Problematique
Supermassive Black Hole
Hysteria
Undisclosed Desires
Unnatural Selection
Starlight
Time is Running Out

It was just incredible how much energy and passion they brought to the set despite being openers. They really gave it all they had and although we were one of the only people standing, screaming and dancing in our section, I had to smile when I overheard a few people commenting how “unreal” their performance was while waiting to buy merchandise. They are my beautiful little secret, but it still feels good to know that soon they will get the exposure they deserve. There are rumors that they will be headlining their first American tour sometime in 2010 and I really hope they make it down to South Florida because I plan on being front and center. I can’t tell you what a freaking tease their short set was – I was not ready for it to be over.

And for those non-believers, here is video footage of Map of the Problematique. I filmed their entire set, but this was one of the most steady mostly because I wasn’t the one recording – Elsie was sweet enough to take over for a bit so I could be a total fangirl.

Oh yeah, U2 also played. They were OK I guess 😉

Lovable Friday

1. She Wants Revenge Concert
1. She Wants Revenge Concert

Wednesday night I joined a bunch of my friends at Ft. Lauderdale’s Revolution LIVE to see She Wants Revenge. I have to admit that I came into it pretty clueless when it came to any details about the band. I had just heard a couple of singles and found them fun to dance to. One of my best friends, Elsie, is a huge fan and when she invited me to come along with her – I decided what the hell! I am so glad I went! First off, it turns out a large group of our friends were going so being able to spend a night dancing with some of my favorite people is always a win in my book. Second, one of the opening bands was Kill Hannah, who are a Chicago band that have had a long friendship with Mr. Billy Corgan himself! It was my first time seeing them and they were amazing – could definitely hear the strong Pumpkins influence. However, I was too chicken to go up to them after the show and express our mutual SP love. Fail. Lastly, wow. She Wants Revenge definitely blew me away – they were so.much.fun. I danced until I couldn’t feel my toes anymore! But what happened after the show was probably the best part of the night. We were able to meet the band & two of my friends got their SWR lyrical tattoos signed by both members, Adam & Justin! They were quite possibly the coolest guys ever – I always love meeting celebrities that don’t take themselves so seriously. Unfortunately, I just discovered that Adam was passing a kidney stone that night through his Twitter account! I can’t believe he was going through so much pain but still managed to be so polite to his fans: he chatted them up, signed autographs and took pictures with all of them. Not to mention headed to LIV at the Fountainbleu in Miami to spin a set after our show! I think it’s pretty safe to say that these guys just got themselves a new fan.

Our love is so rock steady

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale Wedding

I’d like to wish my most favoritest couple ever a very very happy wedding anniversary and I hope they have many many more to come. They are one of the only Hollywood couples that know how to do it right and it’s a breath of fresh air. I just hope Ms. Stefani finally realizes that it’s OK to loan him out every now and then as I’ve been waiting for my turn for quite some time. 😉

Also, some brief thoughts on last night’s VMA’s:

– Kanye West is the biggest douche on this planet.
– I have come to the conclusion that I do not understand Lady Gaga.
– Muse being introduced as “the band that influenced Twilight” put a stake through my heart. Repeatedly.
– I am pretty far removed from what is considered “popular music.”
– I’m totally OK with that.

ps; No worries! The weekend wrap-up will be up tomorrow – I have to play a little catch up!
