We Love Fine: Force Friday Wears

I’m a little late to the Force Friday party, but better late than never!
As the majority of you know, today the new Force Awakens merch was unleashed upon the world, and geeks took advantage. You may have been running after that much-lusted-over BB-8 (one of my friends snagged one and ohymygodicantwaittoplay), but I’m here to share some pretty awesome geeky wears because rebels need to look good while they are fighting against the evil and twisted Empire. Am I right?

One of my absolute favorite geeky fashion retailers, We Love Fine, just released a new line of Star Wars merchandise to coincide with the holiday? Yes, lets call it that. They have some pretty amazing dresses designed by Catherine Elhoffer that range from short & sweet to dark & sinister. And yes, ladies, those are pockets you see. Can it get any better? You know you will just HAVE to snag one of these cuties for opening night in December, and remember to grab a piece or two for your dude too! I especially love this Aloha Vader Shirt.

As usual, not one piece is over $50 so you can definitely build up your new Star Wars wardrobe for all the fun affairs in the months and even years to come (hello, expanded Star Wars Disney Parks). For WLF’s complete Star Wars line, click here and may the force be with your wallet you.

5 Fandom Friday: Favorite Aliens

Fandom Friday

Brought to you by The Nerdy Girlie & Super Space Chick

Who doesn’t love thinking of the possibilities that space could offer? Other universes, potential alternative home planets and, most intriguing, other life forms. Are we really alone in this expansive universe? It’s an age old question (and one the History Channel loves to delve into) that has had our culture obsessing over alien life for quite awhile. It’s no surprise that aliens are commonly included in most sci-fi shows and movies: both depicted as evil and adorable. So without further ado, here are 5 of my favorite aliens:

1. The Doctor; You know that The Doctor would make it to #1 on my list, right? Duh. Although he is an alien, The Doctor represents hope in humanity and acceptance. He helps others grow and discover who they truly are, and how special they are. He warmed my heart during my darkest of times, so The Doctor (specifically 10) is my all-time favorite alien.

What I Wore: The Dark Side

_MG_8702

If you follow me over on Fashionably Nerdy, then you saw me post about this great maxi dress that can double as maternity wear. It was on super sale, so naturally I snagged it. I couldn’t wait to feature it because it was absolutely perfect – just the right bit of chic AND geek. My only complaint is that it’s a bit see through, but if you wear the right undergarments, you should be ready to go! It’s definitely the perfect summer piece since it’s so light and airy. I paired it with a denim button down to give it a little more personality and a bold statement necklace to bring in a little glam. Easy, breezy…geekgirl. Slogan: coined.

Nerdy Must Haves

Sailor Moon Leggings; Since my belly began expanding with my pregnancy, I am in desperate search for comfort paired with fashion. I’ve found that leggings do this best! I can push them down under my belly and feel such relief, but when paired with a tunic top can look so chic and stylish. That’s why geeky leggings are my new best friends, and I am all about TeeFury’s new line – especially these Sailor Moon ones!

Mother of Dragons Tee; Like most ladies, I love me some Daenerys Targaryen. She’s the ultimate bad ass female – I mean, she birthed DRAGONS, you guys. Who doesn’t want to be able to say that? I definitely have to rock this tee at some point in my pregnancy because although she may not be a literal dragon, I know my little Luna is going to be a fiery one. 😉

LSP Sweater; So I know I featured a LSP cardigan last time and now here I am with a sweatshirt, but I honestly can’t help myself. I think Lumpy is fresh to death and I’d love to wear her all over my body (weird?). Too bad it’s unbearably hot right now in Miami or I’d order one stat (if they weren’t sold out).

LightSaber Rattle; Do you want to die? Because I do. How cute is this adorable lightsaber rattle??? Sometimes it is very difficult to shop geeky for a little baby girl, but leave it to Etsy to do the trick. This was promptly put on our registry.

Gender Reveal

On Mother’s Day, we planned a gender reveal for our little nugget. I thought that it would be the perfect occasion, so I went out of my way to get a private ultrasound to detect the gender earlier that week. I was so nervous that our nugget wouldn’t cooperate, but SHE did! I can’t really describe the feeling when you find out your baby’s sex. We weren’t hoping for one over the other, but it just feels so real once you know. We can call her by her name, go shopping for her clothes, and start envisioning the little woman she will one day grow up to be. Basically: magical.

We wanted only our close & immediate family at the reveal, but still wanted to make it special while sticking to a budget. I got a lot of our party supplies from Target, Hobby Lobby & Party City and more of the specialty items from Etsy or other online stores. This is kind of a mini-preview of our baby shower, since I apparently am obsessed with the modern rustic look lately. I just can’t get enough of burlap and gold glitter, sue me.

We, of course, had to add a geeky element to our party, so instead of the typical “wear your guess” buttons or pins with bow ties or bows, we went Star Wars. We got some adorable Luke and Leia buttons off of Etsy, and they were a hit! Our guests were not split – the majority picked up Leia, leaving our Luke’s pretty lonely (that family intuition).

The most exciting part of the morning though was the actual reveal! Everyone was extremely anxious and impatient, so we decided to do it right away. After all, I had tortured them all enough for an entire week. We had black balloons that we filled with pink confetti and had them all pop them at the same time. It was so hysterical to watch all their reactions as the balloons popped! Word to the wise: make sure you fill your balloons with A LOT of the gender specific colored confetti. I wanted to make sure we had a big explosion so I used “filler” confetti in different colors with larger pink confetti, but a lot of our guests had to look at the floor to determine what color they were seeing. Don’t make my same mistake if you want to do the same!
