Creating geek chic outfits for San Diego Comic Con can be daunting since it’s the epicenter of geek style and fashion. You want to look good, while also being comfortable enough to be on your feet and on the go 24/7. I figured I would share some of my tried and true techniques to help take some of the stress out of packing now that we are in the final stretch (can you believe it?!).
- Fandom tee with a midi skirt; my newest favorite look is to pair any old fandom shirt with a fun midi skirt. Combined with a pair of chucks, it’s the ultimate comfy but stylish convention outfit. If I could dress like this every day, I would.
2. Wear a statement piece; just staring at a boring old geek tee, but want to make it pop? Tie it in a knot + pair it with a pair of high waisted bold colored pants or a suspender skirt in a fun pattern. A statement piece can elevate anyone’s look and really make you stand out.
3. Accessorize; possibly the easiest thing you can do is just pick a comfortable “muggle” outfit from your closet and play it up with fandom accessories to instantly make it geek chic. Some of my favorite ways to accessorize are with ita bags covered in your favorite fandom pins or adding a fandom patch to shirts or denim!
4. Inspired by; lately I’ve been trying to budget by not buying new clothes and using what I currently have in my closet. It’s made me get really creative and I’ve loved the challenge. For SDCC this year, I just found pieces that were already in my closet to create some “inspired by” looks that remind me of some of my favorite characters in fandom. You’d be surprised at all the gems you already have in yours!
I hope some of these tactics help you put together the best outfits you will feel confident and comfortable in while partying all over San Diego next week! Make sure to swing by my panel all about geek fashion on Saturday, July 20th, from 4-5pm at the Marriott Marquis Grand 10 + 11. I’d love to meet you!
