I was so stoked to hear that Espionage Cosmetics was launching their own subscription service full of geek makeup and accessories. For those of you not in the know, Espionage is the premiere retailer for all things both geeky and girly. ย They even made the hop from online to brick and mortar by opening up their own shop in Washington, The Geek Boutique. Their next endeavor, however, was one that spoke to my heart: a subscription box full of makeup, lifestyle items and accessories inspired by geekdom ($30/month). I was sold! So were a lot of others, apparently, because the first box sold out pretty quickly. I’m glad I was able to sneak my way in and snag a spot in time – the first box was so much fun!
Life with Luna: 8 Weeks
It’s incredible to me that I have a 2 month old baby! The days just meld into one another when you are at home with a newborn due to lack of sleep and the constant go-go-go, so it’s hard to keep track of time. I had to be reminded that Christmas is only a couple of weeks away. Where did 2015 go?
Anyways, Luna was quite a tough one for a couple of weeks, but has completely mellowed out once she hit the 8 week mark. She is sleeping almost as much as she did when she only a couple of weeks old, and often prefers to take those naps on me rather than in her rock ‘n play. This is totally cool with me – she is completely delicious and I’m slowly learning how to do most tasks with only one hand. She is also starting to respond more to social play – such as smiling and the beginning of giggles when I sing songs to her and giving me really big smiles when she sees me in the morning. It makes interacting with her even more fun.
We are still homebound for a couple more weeks, and I cannot wait to start taking her out with us. I definitely have cabin fever and want to start adjusting her to our social life: Wynwood Sundays, brunch, and mini-adventures. It will be nice to wake up and be able to ask our usual weekend tag line again: What are we doing today??ย Of course, her vaccinations mark the end of my maternity leave, so I am both wishing for time to speed up and slow down simultaneously. I can’t imagine not being with her every day, but thankfully, I still will be three times a week.
Nerdy Must Haves
Today’s Nerdy Must Haves are all fashion-centric! I’m having a case of wanting what I can’t have. Since I’m currently on a hardcore weight loss regime (low carb diet, exercising daily), it’s silly for me to think about buying clothes because I don’t know where I’ll be on the scale in a week, much less a month (I was able to lose 2lbs in my first week back at it!), but I still must HAVE ALL THE THINGS. You know how it is. #girlygeekproblems
X-Files dress; Confession time. I’ve never watched The X-Files. Go ahead. Stone me. I remember being really scared by the premise (I am terrified of aliens) so I refused to watch. Funny enough, I watched the movie and loved it. Even funnier enough, I adored Fringe and list it as my top 5 shows ever, and it is heavily influenced by The X-Files. Go figure. Regardless, I love this X-Files inspired dress and feel the need to have it even though I’m not a fan. I realize how ridiculous that is though, but it speaks volumes for the cut and design of it!
Brunch tank; Although this isn’t necessarily “geeky,” being a Geek Girl Brunch officer, I find ways to tie in brunch and mimosas to geekery. I’ve always loved brunch, but now it seems like the entire world has hopped on board. Honestly, what’s not to love – especially if you can find a spot with bottomless mimosas or free ones. ๐
Maleficent earrings; I’m always down to show my blog’s namesake a little love when it comes to my fashion choices, so I am completely in love with these earrings. They are just the right amount of understated that I gravitate towards. You could pair these just as easily with a work outfit as with one you’d wear to a Con, so they are the ultimate versatile geeky accessory. Sold!
TARDIS galaxy dress; As you can tell, I love a good Peter Pan collar (damn you, Clara Oswald). When I saw that Hot Topic had introduced a Doctor Who fashion collection, I immediately had to check it out. This dress immediately stood out to me as completely adorable and unique (who else is sick of that Her Universe TARDIS dress?), so I whispered “treat yo self” to myself as I added it to my cart. I also checked size small because it’s good to have goals, amirite??
Life with Luna: Pawnee Goddess
Luna is growing by the minute, which is making it really fun to dress her. She is finally filling in and fitting into more of her quirky, stylish outfits and although she still can’t leave the house or have visitors, it doesn’t stop me from dressing her up for just the two of us. That’s what cooped up fashion bloggers find themselves doing to pass the time. ๐
Fandom of the Month Club: 1 Year Anniversary
It’s hard to believe that Fandom of the Month Club has already been around for a year! It’s even harder to believe that I’ve been with them since {nearly} the beginning. I think I jumped on board the 3rd box, and have been hooked ever since. Sure, some months have not corresponded to my fandoms, but it’s always nice when I’m able to gift an entire set to a friend (and that’s only happened twice). This month, the team was teasing a bigger and better set with it being their anniversary and all. I was so incredibly excited to see what goodies it would hold and I was not disappointed.
First off, all the pieces were for fandoms I adore, so that made me grin from ear to ear. There was a TARDIS ring, dragon stud earrings, a mockingjay keychain, Harry Potter charm bookmark, and my personal favorite: a LOST necklace. I had such a ridiculous fangirl moment when I saw it – and it’s commemorating one of the most gut-wrenching scenes with my favorite character. I’m not joking when I say I may wear it every day. Erin mentioned that she would love to do an entire LOST themed set, but she didn’t think that it would be received well. That makes my heart so sad. I would absolutely LOVE to see what she would curate – can you imagine a DriveShaft ring?
Everything included was awesome, except I have to admit that I was a little confused by the bookmark. I actually had no idea what it was when I initially opened it. My husband and I racked our brains trying to figure it out, and it wasn’t until someone commented on the official Instagram that I found out it was a very elaborate bookmark. This is the one item I was a little disappointed in. Sure, it is absolutely gorgeous, but it’s very heavy and I don’t think very practical to actually be used as a bookmark. Again, the charms are so beautiful, I would have liked to see them be used for something like a charm bracelet. Now that would have looked killer.
Overall, I was really happy and know I’ll be sticking with this subscription service for the long haul!
Do you subscribe to FOTM club? If so, what was your favorite piece this month?
