I thought the 12 grapes signifying luck for each of the months to come was just a Cuban NYE tradition (maybe that’s just the throwing buckets of water out your door bit). I had no idea that others did the same, but (as always) Martha Stewart clarifies by posting this lovely party detail and adding that it originated in Spain. Definitely makes the grapes look more refined than what my Mom makes me take in my purse to every New Years festivity I have attended since I was old enough to not celebrate at home (looks eerily similar to this). It would also help me avoid hearing, “No te olvides de las uvas!” over and over again for a good solid week.
(Merry) Lovable Friday!
Being that today is Christmas Eve (or Noche Buena for all my Latin readers), I figured I would keep with the holiday theme and show you some of my most favorite festive items I’ve stumbled on this week!
Ah, baking. Relaxing (sometimes) and therapeutic (sometimes). While asking you all for your favorite holiday recipes last week as part of the Be My Clementine giveaway, my eyes landed on the seemingly delicious Candy Cane Cookies, submitted by my good friend, Camero (who has a wonderful food blog you should all check out). I decided these were the ones I was going to tackle. Despite some hang-up’s (didn’t form them into candy canes), they were a huge success. In fact, my boss came to my office to specifically ask me if there were any more left several days later (there definitely were not). I especially love how festive they look and the contrast created by the peppermint flavor.
Lovable Friday: Halloween 2010 Edition
Nothing says Halloween like arts and crafts. And when I say arts and crafts, I mean the queen of them herself, Martha Stewart. Sure she’s creepy, a low-talker, and yes, she may even look like she’s ready to snap on a sweet gingerbread man at any moment. But she certainly knows how to host a party. These pumpkin faces are just adorable, and are easy to do for any Halloween occasion. All you need is a jar, candy to fill the jar, a pumpkin and soft candy to mold however you please for the silly/scary faces.
