Was anyone else granted access to Pottermore this past weekend?
I was, and I almost careened my way off the road when I noticed I had received my owl (yeah, yeah. I know how awful it is to read your email while driving). Needless to say, the first thing I did when I got home was check the site and…it was down. I checked again: still down.
It wasn’t until I returned home after a raucous night with my derby sisters at 3am that I finally was able to get in and enjoy some of the site. I won’t spoil, but…So.much.fun. I managed to be given my wand before 4am, when I realized I was absolutely ridiculous, the biggest nerd on the planet and needed some sleep.
I may be so late to this game, but I was lent the first book in the Hunger Games trilogy by a friend last week and I am so dunzo. In fact, I’m sure by the time this posts (in a couple of days), I’ll be done with the entire series. I’m currently on the last book, Mockingjay, since I basically annihilated my way through them. I don’t think I’ve ever been so addicted to a book series since I was a kid. I just can’t get enough of it. Katniss is such a positive role model for young girls – forget Bella Swan. This is true empowerment! And now I couldn’t be more excited for the film release in March – I totally see a gaggle of girls in matching Hunger Games fandom shirts. And I love it.
We don’t get to spend too much quality time with our cousins (everyone is just so busy), so we jump at the chance when the opportunity arises! That happened this past weekend when we went to Merrick Park to celebrate my cousin’s birthday. We had a great time, had a little too much to drink, and laughed a whole lot. Basically, a wonderful evening. I wanted to look stylish, but didn’t want to go the dress route, mainly for comfort (I’ve been so lazy lately). This little outfit definitely did the job just right!

I thought the 12 grapes signifying luck for each of the months to come was just a Cuban NYE tradition (maybe that’s just the throwing buckets of water out your door bit). I had no idea that others did the same, but (as always) Martha Stewart clarifies by posting this lovely party detail and adding that it originated in Spain. Definitely makes the grapes look more refined than what my Mom makes me take in my purse to every New Years festivity I have attended since I was old enough to not celebrate at home (looks eerily similar to this). It would also help me avoid hearing, “No te olvides de las uvas!” over and over again for a good solid week.
