Nerdy Must Haves

collage

1. Leslie Knope tee; I am such a huge fan of Parks and Recreation. I started watching when I became pregnant with Luna and just recently finished the series (if it weren’t for severe sleep deprivation, I would have sobbed like a baby). Since I was a late adopter, I don’t have any Parks and Rec merchandise yet, but I’d totally like to change that with this adorable tee from Kate Gabrielle. I honestly don’t understand any woman who doesn’t believe Leslie is their spirit animal, with her perfect party planning skills, compassion and forward thinking.

2. Marvel PJ’s; Target is really killing it with the geek wear lately. Between their collaboration with Star Wars, and now these incredible Marvel PJ’s, trips have become increasingly tempting for my wallet. There are a whole series of these sleep sets, but this one is my favorite. Unfortunately, it looks a little toasty for the South Florida weather, but I think it would be a perfect Christmas morning outfit!

3. Luna cat hair bow; You guys must be so sick of all my Sailor Moon paraphernalia, but I have to be honest: it’s never going to stop. I just can’t get enough of magical girl anything, so you are stuck staring at Luna cats and brightly colored compacts and wands forever. Sorry, not sorry. This bow is no exception. I love that it’s the perfect size to rock in front of a large top knot, which is my new favorite hairdo since becoming a mommy (I miss the days of hair straightening and curling irons).

4. Moon Prism Power Embroidery; Cross stitch is all the rage these days, and I love that it is slowly seeping into the geeky domain. Naturally, this one grabbed my attention right away. Not only is it a Sailor Moon reference, but it also reminds me of my little Luna girl, and I think it would look great in her room. Definitely look around her Etsy store if you want to find more fun and geeky designs, like this Star Wars one!

Oh Fandom Maternity Giveaway!

IMG_6190 copy

Tee; c/o Oh Fandom Maternity | Jeans; Old Navy | Necklace; Fandomly Designs | Shoes; Jane.com | Polish; Essie’s Licorice| Lipstick; NYX’s Bewitched

So remember how I was always complaining that there was no fandom maternity wear during my pregnancy? Well, now there is! I was contacted by Oh Fandom Maternity to feature one of their awesome maternity tees, but unfortunately, was not able to in time since I was told I would be induced. The tee actually arrived the day after Luna was born, so a flat lay was the next best thing I could show you all!

Cassie decided to start Oh Fandom because she realized the Harry Potter generation was starting to have kids of their own, and wanted to give them the geeky options that they so desired. The company is starting with only Potter designs, but hopes to expand to other fandoms very soon.

I personally love the quality of the tees and think they go great with my favorite pair of maternity skinny jeans from Old Navy. Pair them with some vampy lips and nails, and I think you have the perfect Fall geeky mama look! Now, lucky for you, since I am no longer pregnant (& don’t plan on being pregnant again for a long while – if even), I am giving away this awesome tee in a size small. The giveaway will run for one week, until 11/13/15, where a winner will be chosen at random. All you have to do is follow these 3 easy steps:

1. Follow @melificent on Instagram
2. Follow @oh.fandom.maternity on Instagram
3. Leave a comment on this post with your favorite Harry Potter moment

Badge Brigade

IMG_0439

I hope all of you had a fun and safe Halloween!

Unless you have been hiding under a rock, you know that badges (or buttons) are all the rage when it comes to geek fashion these days. It’s such a fun way to add a little fangirl touch to any outfit and make your fandoms known without screaming from the hilltops (unless you are into that sort of thing, then by all means, go ahead). Since I’m such a big fan of vests, I’ve really taken to the whole badge trend to make them a little more fun and kitschy. However, what I love the most about badges is that they will bring a pop to your wardrobe without breaking the bank. Most badges are very affordable, while the more custom pieces can still be purchased at reasonable prices (while supporting indie creators). I find new artists and shops all the time with great ones, so I figured I would round them all up in one place for you guys!

Bottom Row: Kate Gabrielle | The Pink Samauri {currently on maternity leave} | Kate Gabrielle

What are some of your favorite badges, button or pin shops?

Life with Luna: 2 Weeks

IMG_6196 copy

It’s hard to believe that yet another week has gone by with our little Luna bug. She is quickly growing – now weighing in at 5lbs, 13 oz and measuring 19 inches. That’s nearly a pound heavier and 1 inch longer than at her last visit a week ago! She’s so incredible and proving that her IUGR diagnosis is not going to stand in the way. I always knew she was a little warrior since she was in my belly, and she has validated that every day since she has been with us.

Her little personality is starting to show with each day – she wants what she wants when she wants it and isn’t shy about vocalizing her anger when that doesn’t happen (especially with food). Tummy time is not her favorite activity, but she’s getting stronger and tolerating it much more – it’s just so hard to find time for it since Luna spends most of her day either eating or sleeping! She loves being held against my chest while in our nursery rocker and especially when the soundtrack is set to Borns‘ new album (Mommy absolutely loves it too).

I’m finally starting to sleep when she sleeps but not consistently. Now that the hubs is back at work (where did that paternity leave go?!), I take advantage of her nap times to get things done, but I know I’m eventually going to have to slow down and take naps right along with her. But despite the banging headaches, sleep deprivation and moments of pure anxiety (why is dressing a tiny little baby so difficult?!), I can honestly say that I have never felt so fulfilled in all my life. It’s like a hole was filled that I didn’t even know was there, and it’s absolutely beautiful.

TeeBlox Review & Coupon Code

IMG_0136

Now I know I’ve been coming at you guys with a whole series of geeky subscription boxes, but here’s another one to anger your bank account. TeeBlox provides you with a monthly tee that you can choose from 4 different categories: games, movies & TV, beers & liquors & hot meex (which is a mixture of the other 3). It will run you only $9.99/month and most of the shirts are officially licensed, so you know you are getting legit merchandise.

When TeeBlox reached out to me, I decided to choose the movies and TV category because I’m a pop culture junkie. When I received my first box, I was pleasantly surprised to see more than just a t-shirt inside! First things first, the tee. I got a Kingdom Hearts shirt, which is really cute, but I don’t play the game. It is great quality and I enjoy the design though. My only complaint would be that TeeBlox does not offer women’s sizing yet, so I had to opt for the men’s small which will now run large on my smaller non-pregnant frame. Thankfully my best friend’s mother is a seamstress so she’ll be able to alter the tees to fit me as I lose the baby weight, but others may not be as fortunate. I’d love to see them include women’s sizes in the future!

In addition to the tee, I received 4 stickers: a Captain America shield, Star Wars/Starbucks mashup, the Stay Puft marshmallow man, and the logo for TeeBlox. These are so great and the perfect size to decorate your computer or notebooks. I also got 4 buttons (the “I’m My Hero” one being my personal favorite), a huge (& I mean HUGE) Boardwalk Empire poster, and a free comic. Out of the extras, I especially enjoyed the stickers and buttons, as they are elements that I often use to express my fandom.

Overall, I think you get a great deal for $9.99/month, and I can’t wait to see what tee I will receive next! As if the price wasn’t nice on its own, I come bearing additional gifts in the form of a coupon code! If you use the code: MELIFICENT, you will score 15% off! If you do use it, I’d love to see you sporting your new tee so make sure to tag me on IG, Twitter or Facebook!

Edit; looks like TeeBlox will be offering womens sizing in the near future, so whoop whoop!

Disclosure: I was compensated by TeeBlox with a free subscription in return for this blog post. However, all opinions are my own.
