So the Pumpkins decided to release a subscription service, which included videos from the studio, unreleased material, and vintage goodies all for $40 for 12 consecutive weeks. It sounded great to me so I signed up as being interested. Yesterday I received a “mangry” email from the man himself addressed to the 6,000 of us that thought this was a good idea.
Apparently the rest of the fans were outraged by the idea of paying for a subscription because they felt it was just another ploy by Corgan to drain the fans of their money so he could stuff it in his pockets. This, in turn, made Corgan feel less than “full of light & love” and more disappointed with the feelings of his fans and I think the music industry as a whole at this moment.
Even though I can totally see him throwing a hissy fit as he typed this: pounding the keyboard keys, grunting under his breath and kicking small animals, I couldn’t agree with him more. I do not think $40, nor the newly compromised $20, is a lot to pay to get a more intimate look at your supposed favorite band. This is something that Corgan does not have to do, as he states in his email, but rather something he wants to do. Say what you will about the dude, but in my opinion, Corgan has always been very good to his fans, which more than often do not deserve it by spending countless hours on message boards listing reasons they hate the man and attending concerts only to complain that 1979 or Zero were not played. That’s gotta sting. And it’s got to make you want to give up.
But instead, Corgan wants to share even more with us. And despite all the drama and sometimes insanity surrounding the guy (hello, Tila Tequila?), I believe he has a huge heart and that it is in the right place. So basically, what I am trying to say to my fellow fans is…cut the guy some slack and get over yourselves!
I hope the service works out and that we can experience a new kind of interaction with Billy and the rest of the band.
Do you agree?
ps; For great performances & for what I believe to be a very candid interview of both Billy & Jimmy, check out The Chris Isaak Hour now available here.

The Chris Isaak interviews and performances are really great – my favorite parts are in the interview:
a)when billy talks about his dad telling him he’d never make it “with that voice of yours”
b)when he admits that most of the fans wanted to kill them when they jammed to long (timpani solo huh?)
