So I decided to skip Weekend Highlights this Monday and instead, bring to you what you are really interested in: what everyone was wearing at the Emmy’s last night! I love awards shows because not only do I get to see all my favorite actors in one spot, but I also get to lust over some beautiful gowns. And now, thanks to avidly watching Rachel Zoe on Bravo, I know how much blood, sweat and tears goes into selecting those gowns! So without further ado, here are my favorites and not so favorites from the night:
The ladies of Glee definitely knew it was their time to shine and boy, did they ever! Lea Michele looked absolutely gorgeous in her navy ruffled gown and the hilarious Jane Lynch could stop traffic in her plum, form-fitting one shoulder. Claire Danes looked like an Emmy herself in a sparkly, strapless sheath that perfectly complimented her platinum feathered locks. And finally, Anna Paquin doned on a fabulous Alexander McQueen number that was definitely designed with matadors in mind. Hot ones, that is.
It’s a shame because even though I am not a fan of the show, I think the ladies of Mad Men are absolutely stunning and they looked anything but on Emmy night. January Jones looked like her hair had gotten into a fight with a hair dryer and that dress in that color was just awful on her. Christina Hendricks wasn’t too far behind with her hairy frock in a dull and lifeless icy lavender. Poor funny ladies Tina Fey and Mindy Kaling also missed the fashion boat with their unappealing gothic ensembles. Better luck next time ladies!
Also, I’d just like to chime in that I adored the opening number (HURLEY! & Nina!) and that I was beyond disappointed that LOST did not win in one of their categories. I know there was a lot of controversy surrounding how they ended the last season, but you cannot deny the superb acting of all cast members and weight of the show in pop culture. I was not a happy camper. I was also not so pleased to see that Fringe wasn’t even nominated for any categories. What’s going on, people? I may be the only one, but I just do not see the appeal in Mad Men (yes, I have watched & couldn’t stomach any of the characters) and what the hell is Breaking Bad?
Feel free to chime in your own opinions of the night down below in the comments!

Well we all know that I’m biased on Christina Hendricks in general, but I LOVED her dress and that hasn’t always been the case. It actually made me want to wear a similar color.
I do agree that January Jones’ wasn’t my favorite dress, but the color was what I thought did work. & I did think Jane Lynch looked amazing, particularly in that color, but the middle of her gown kind of looked like a quilt. It was strange.
I guess we have color differences of opinion. 😉

I agree with you, especially on Breaking Bad. Dude winning 3 years in a row for best actor??? Really? Can we give it to someone else please (particularly Hugh Laurie). Enough already.
I missed the opening number, boo. 🙁

Sci-fi has a history of being snubbed in the Emmys and Academy Awards just because it’s sci-fi, honestly. (They tried to mask Lost as a drama, but its roots were sci-fi.) The only real chance they ever get to win in are the technical awards like sound and special effects, but it’s rare they’d ever get nominated for anything but. ABC just had a little more lobbying power for Lost.
BSG didn’t get any nominations its last season, and the composer never got one for any of his work on BSG (which many soundtrack fans would argue was some of TV’s finest music).
It’s a shame, really, but us sci-fi fans are used to being disappointed with these awards shows (except for the Saturn Awards, but that’s a whole other story) 🙁

I saw January Jones and thought maybe, just MAYBE if the dress didn’t look like it was made of plastic party cups, it would have worked. I could have done without the seashell looking things on her boobs though.
I think Anna Paquin’s dress was fitting for her but it didn’t necessarily fit well on her. The middle section looked a little weird.
Lea Michelle looked amazing. Claire Danes was perfection. Mindy Kaling was a big WTF and Tina Fey’s dress, while not my cup of tea, was fitting for her. She did try something different. She still did black but at least with some interest.
The opening sequence was awesome. Jimmy Fallon did a great job. I wasn’t too pumped for many of the winners (except Jim Parsons’ win) and hate that Lost didn’t win anything (Mad Men is a great show but this should have been Lost’s year) but alas, there’s still the Golden Globes!

Thanks for all your opinions!
I was also really happy when Jim Parsons won – so well deserved!

I saw the first three episodes of Mad Men due to all of the hype and couldn’t get into it. I think Christina Hendricks and Jon Hamm are exceptionally good looking people, but I don’t enjoy the characters they play whatsoever.
LOST should have beaten everyone. I don’t even care who they were up against, they should have won because they’re all amazing. I wasn’t even a fan of the finale, but they deserved it and it was my favorite show ever. I hate award shows and didn’t bother to watch The Emmys because its all politics and I’m never happy with the results.
