For the first day of my Melificent.com takeover, I’d like to first say hello to all of Meli’s friendlies and hope that you all dont hiss and scowl as you read my posts. So to really loosen things up, I’m doing a giveaway. (Who says money can’t buy readers?)
A giveaway for what you ask? A giveaway for a fantastic movie. As some, if not all of you may not know, I’m a freakazoid for all things animated, and tomorrow DreamWorks: How To Train Your Dragon will be released on DVD and Blu-ray.
So here it goes… Please comment on this blog post and tell me what your favorite animated movie is and we will choose a winner by random on Monday morning. The winner will receive the wonderful movie in either the DVD or Blu-ray version (whichever one they decide).
Good luck everyone, and make sure to check out the Lovable Friday post tomorrow.

The Lion King! I remember seeing it in theaters when I was 7 with my dad and all the obsessiveness that followed. It didn’t help that my first celeb crush, JTT, was the voice of Simba. Every Christmas present I got in 1994 was Lion King themed. Stuffed toys, a tent and sleeping bag, video games, cassettes, and that was just the beginning. I would sing the songs on long trips and could recite the script word for word…
If I weren’t at work, I would probably be watching The Lion King right now.

I think my favorite might be Disney’s anthropomorphic take on Robin Hood! I am not ashamed to admit that I had (have?!) a crush on an animated fox.

Hmm…It’s a hard choice because I have a love of the classic animations from Disney but I’m also very impressed with what Pixar and Dreamworks have been cooking up in the last decade.
As for classics, I’ve always been partial to Dumbo. It makes me cry so much!
And recently my heart was stolen by Up!

Ferngully! Who can argue with that?
Nick says
Disney’s The Sword in the Stone!
Laz says
I would have to say Wall-E. What Pixar did in that movie was amazing. Giving so much personalty to a character that could only say two words. It was brilliant. I’ve never gotten tired of it. =)

There are tons of great animated movies. Miyazaki has an impressive list (from Totoro to Princess Mononoke), Disney has tons of best sellers (Toy Story, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast), Dreamworks (Shrek etc.). It’s definitively in this ocean of good stuff hard to make a choice.
However, the most recent movie far beyond the others is Wall-E. Small robot you’re easily get attached to. Speechless, the story is strong and brings hundred of warnings kids can easily understand. So yes, my choice goes for Wall-E π

Well, well, well. Welcome to the the show Elissa. I think your first day on the job is going swimmingly so far. And I believe you are correct. I think buying readers can work…well on me at least.
My favorite animated movie..was the HOBBIT. I think it was released in 1977. I thought it was amazing. It had tons of great animation and it was a great retelling of the story. It kind of used motion capture and the detail and voices were great. It was done by Rankin and Bass which usually did like Manga Anime of the time. If you have some time…check it out.

Well hello Elissa! I’m with you on the animated movies – there are so many excellent ones that it makes it seriously tough to choose. I think I have to go with Sleeping Beauty though. π

I would have to echo others who have said Wall-E. A terrific movie with such lovable characters.

So many… I would say Otomo Katsuhiro Memories 3×1! specially fodder cannon story!
Lori says
Animated movies?!?!?! Kung Fu Panda is my absolute favorite!
John says
The Little Mermaid.
When I was a little kid we had this on VHS and my sister and I watched it all the time. We lived in a very isolated area of the country and the idea of exploring a different world – one with people and technology and all sorts of fascinating activities really resonated.
Later in life I also noticed that Ursula’s alter ego Vanessa looks EXACTLY like Angelina Jolie. Go figure.

I still daydream about being Princess Ariel π

Up. I liked there was hardly any talking and the story came across so nicely!

I know there are alot of great animated films out there, Its hard to choose just one.
I choose Beauty and the Beast. I pick this movie because it is a wonderful tale of what love should truley be. Never judge a book by its cover. Bell and the Beast show us that true love can be based on a beautiful connection not based on looks and lust. Love lies within the heart! Oh and it has some of the best songs eva! =P

While Disney has produced some amazing films over the years… I have to give this one to Miyazaki.
Spirited Away is one of the most complex, beautiful and compelling animated films ever created. It resists the simple “good vs. evil” tropes of most children’s movies, but does not become inaccessible for younger audiences — even as it captivates more mature viewers with complex morality themes and imagery that teeters on grotesque. The animation can almost be described as tactile as you can almost feel the floorboards creak and monsters squish underneath Sen’s bare feet.
Runner up: My Neighbor Totoro (the only film that doesn’t need an antagonist to work. As Roger Ebert says “a film made for the world we should live in, rather than the one we occupy..”

To this day every time I come down with a cold or flu that leaves lifeless on the couch the first movie I pop in is Cinderella. I love it.

I watched How To Train Your Dragon in 3D and I loved it, but I also really enjoyed Up. So my vote goes for Up.

The Lion King is my fave for so many sentimental reasons. But lately, I’m loving just about anything that Pixar or Disney puts out!

My son and I loved ratatouille – Remy is so cute as he thumbs his nose at the tradition of eating garbage. He is the perfect daring oddball going after his own dreams. The kitchen scenes had my son rolling on the floor laughing so hard.
I would really love to win this movie for my son. We love movie nights together – wonderful bonding times. Thanks for the chance
