I legitimately started the road to lose weight in December, but as you all know, that’s like…the worst time to diet. I lost 5lbs, and then gained them all back. It wasn’t until the new year that I kick started myself again and thought of easy ways to shed the baby weight. Since a lot of you have been asking me how I’m losing the weight, I thought I’d detail these simple changes I’ve made. As of the day I wrote this post, I am down 23lbs and have 18 to go if I want to be exactly at my pre-pregnancy weight (I was at my skinniest ever when I got pregnant, sooo…).
1. Drink lots of water. I am so bad at this one. I found myself going through entire days on one child sized cup of water. I kid you not. It’s hard to find time for anything with a newborn, drinking water included. I decided to try to overcome this after hearing that half the time you think you are hungry, you are actually dehydrated. I bought this fun bubblegum pink water jug that is the equivalent of 8 glasses a day and decorated it with some of my Pipsticks stickers. Now it is so adorable & fun, I can’t wait to fill it up every morning and get to drinkin’!
2. Don’t deny yourself, just portion control. I’m going to be real with you guys. I know I’m a petite girl, but I love to eat and drink copious amounts of alcohol. I am a firm believer of treat yo’self, and I’m happy to report I haven’t had to curb this. I allow myself a glass of wine a night during the week (pictured here in my awesome Yoda cup), and one entire cheat day during the weekend. It has yet to effect my weight loss & I haven’t gotten grumpy. Dieting begins to suck when you are in constant restriction mode – just learn to cut back.
3. Make it fun. Another confession: I hate working out. If it’s not exercise veiled in a fun activity, like rollerskating or dancing, I’m not interested. Granted, once I get back to work I will be hitting the gym to do cardio (blarg), but while at home, I’ve been having dance parties with Luna. I have a Spotify playlist, and I try to dance as hard as I can for at least 4 songs while little Lu watches. Having dance parties was my stress relief pre-baby, so I actually look forward to them now since they serve double duty.
4. Take the long way. I did not purchase a stroller parking permit. Nope. I park where I find a space and I use my two fully functioning legs to walk. Lu loves to be strolled around and I love getting my legs moving. I recently went to the mall and saw it as another opportunity to get in some cardio. Instead of getting back in my car to go to the other side of the mall (it’s a huge one), I walked square across it and then back. It felt great (& I got to window shop).
5. Be your own cheerleader. I look at this picture constantly! It was taken the summer before I got pregnant, and aside from loving this shoot, I use these pictures as my inspiration because I felt my best physically. I was taking care of my body by staying away from foods that cause intolerances, and I just felt great in, and in this case, out of clothes. I now give myself monthly goals of where I want to be weight-wise, and cheer myself on. I do little dances when I weigh myself every morning and reward myself with something small when I hit those goals. Most importantly, I make sure not to make my goals unrealistic so that they are attainable and keep me motivated.
So that’s it! I’m not one to go extreme with this stuff, and although I’d love to have that old body back, slow and steady wins the race! Hope this helps some of you new mamas & ladies just trying to lose some weight in general. Good luck!

I really appreciate how down to earth all of these tips are. And I totally agree: dance parties are THE BEST cardio.

Granted, I do have my days where I get really down on my physical appearance and want to snap my fingers and have my old body back, but I know it takes time and I want to enjoy my life, not be a slave to calorie counting and trips to the gym.

I’m trying to lose weight as my OH and I are trying for a baby and I’ve been told I need to lose some weight to help my chances and have a healthier pregnancy. I find it very hard, so this advice has really helped. Drinking water is definitely my downfall, so I might have to order a jug like that too! And I’m going to try to do more walking by taking the long way round where normally I’d use the car. Thanks for this post, it’s been really helpful and hopefully it will help me get my butt into gear! 🙂 x http://www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x
