I have decided to start a new feature on the blog where I give little tutorials, so to speak, about how to rock the geek chic look you see me donning all around this blog. I remember a friend once telling me she had no idea how girls could wear t-shirts as part of a stylish outfit, and I know a lot of people feel this way. They see tees as something to wear around the house or to throw on when you are having a lazy day. I come to tell you this isn’t so!
I’m a big fan of wearing geeky shirts out to girls nights, daytime adventures with the hubs and everywhere in between! It just takes a bit of practice and an eye for accessories to transition a tee from something you slap on to finish household chores to a totally hot fashion piece. Trust me when I say it’s easy, AND so comfortable! It’s also a perfect way to express your fandom, especially if you are picking up a tee from my personal favorite site, TeeFury!
I chose these 3 tees to style from the site, as they are three of my favorite fandoms at the moment: Sailor Moon, Jessica Jones & Star Wars (ps; I don’t care what you say about the word, Bae – I think it’s adorable).
For my Star Wars look, I decided to go a lil’ rock and roll. This is Meli in her true form. I was a teen of the 90’s, so I am my happiest donning ripped pants and combat boots. If you are going to pair a tee with leggings, make sure the tee is long enough to cover your bits and pieces. In this case, it wasn’t, so I added a denim shirt that was easily tied to my waist. It added to the grunge vibe while concealing my booty – perfect! I also threw on a pair of “nerdy” glasses and a loose fitting knit cap in colors that complimented the look. I finished it off with my favorite pair of combat boots. I think this look is perfect for a casual day out. You can run errands in this look, or grab some mimosas with the girls. It’s also great for days you are going to be a little more active – like chasing after a kiddo at the park!

Next up is my Jessica Jones outfit! As many of you know, I’m beyond obsessed with the Netflix series and I’m completely tortured that we have to wait god knows how long for a follow up. Thank goodness I’m a Marvel girl and have so much more to look forward to (Luke Cage! Doctor Strange! Guardians 2! Daredevil!). For this look, I wanted to sweeten it up to contrast against the evil villainous villain on my tee. Let’s face it, The Purple Man has a soft side, so pairing his tee with a mustard yellow skater skirt, flats and a sweet little ponytail isn’t that far fetched, right? Detachable collars are my jam right now, and they really add to the adorable factor. Pairing a tee with a short skater skirt always works and instantly takes it to the next level. I’d wear this day drinking or even out on a date!
Finally, we have my dear little Usagi. I absolutely love how stylized and bold this design is, so I wanted to run with it and pair it with another loud statement piece. In come my fire engine red peg legged pants! If you can find a complementary piece in your wardrobe that will enhance the tee, go for it! I knew I had to make those little red heart eyes pop, and I added another detachable collar so that I could stack on the fandom related accessories. I snagged some incredible Sailor Moon compact pins and slapped them on the collars to really finish up the magical girl vibe. This is a great brunch outfit (I really did wear it to brunch), or something I would wear for daytime adventures, like visiting a brewery.
I really hope you guys like this new feature on the blog and that these little tips can help you create your own stylish geeky ensembles using your very own nerdy tees from your collection or snag yourself some tees from TeeFury at 10% off using my special code: MELIFICENT10 (excludes daily tees & grab bag). If you do get creative and put one together using my insight, make sure to put it up on the Instagrams and tag me (@melificent)! I’d love to see what you guys are putting together!
Disclosure; TeeFury provided me with these tees in return for this post. However, all opinions are my own (as are my stylings).

It’s funny but sometimes I feel like something as simple as wearing boots with my jeans and geeky tee kinda steps it up a notch!

I’m still working on figuring out how to style a geeky tee stylishly as well. I imagine one could take something like a blazer, jeans, high heels, and throw a geeky tee under there as well for a formal-casual look. Though I love the detachable collar with tshirt idea! I’m definitely going to have to try that. (Been meaning to get one for my Agent Simmons cosplay anyways. 🙂 )

holy crap I love these. I usually shy away from awesome tees because I’m a bit of a skirt person, so this is perrrrrrrrfect for someone like me to see. Also yesssss about ‘bae’, I think it’s cute and don’t get the haters!
