One thing is for certain in this crazy world: there will never be a shortage of fun at Geek Girl Brunch Miami. Getting to plan geeky events all over Miami with my best friend is really the best stress relief possible, and this month’s brunch was a blast! Since it was October, we decided to make the theme Murder Boyfriends, a term coined from the depths of Tumblr to describe Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham’s relationship on Fuller’s Hannibal. Naturally, I had to casually cosplay as my favorite cannibal.
What I Wore: Smells Like Mommy Stress
Man, life has been crazy lately. I thought things were difficult at the beginning of mommyhood, but now that Luna is about to be one (!!!), I feel like I don’t have any time for anything! My organization skills have been pushed to the max, and I have no idea how I’ve been able to cross things off my list. There are a lot of transitions coming up as well, which has me kind of in a state, so to speak. I even got a muscle spasm in my neck from the stress. My work schedule is completely changing (so thankful to have work, seriously), I’m planning an intimate party for Luna and her first trip to Disney World (!!), the hubby’s birthday shortly after and then I’m headed to MegaCon Tampa Bay to return just in time for Halloween. Oh, and have I mentioned Luna is starting day care in November? It’s a lot. Almost too much. But I’m rolling on this wave, and trying my best to not lose my mind. Having it all takes your all, it seems.
In between the madness, I try to appreciate the little moments that really mean so much. After taking these photos, we were driving back home and I put my head on Luna’s lap while she was in her car seat. She found this hilarious and started giggling uncontrollably. I took in her laughter, breathed her in, and cried (with love + happiness, of course). When things get to be too much, I find just looking at this little thing I made to make it all right again.

Being Geek Chic: Subtle Geekery
I was given a request after my last Being Geek Chic post on how to incorporate geeky items into basic, every day outfits. I thought this was a great idea because it is something simple that you can do on an every day basis. And lets face it, I’m not always sporting a head to toe geeky-inspired outfit (shocker, I know!) The easiest way to bring in your fandom to any look is through jewelry. I’ve put together two outfits for you all that show you how you can rock your geekery without going head to toe fangirl.
I absolutely love the hippie/boho look these days. It’s so light and easy – exactly what this new mama craves when it comes to fashion. This off the shoulder, flowy top and faux suede fringe vest from Tobi are my new go-to’s when I need to look stylish without too much effort (check out other tops and outerwear from Tobi too). I paired them with a pair of cut off denim shorts and then starting adding some fandom jewelry, like a LOST necklace and Hunger Games-inspired ring. Both pieces are subtle little nods to things I love without overpowering the rest of the look.
Want to go full blown boho? Check out everything Tobi has to offer here.
What I Wore: Cursed Child
Like every other good little Potterhead, I went to the midnight release party of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child script at my local independent bookstore. As if attending another midnight release party after nearly 9 years wasn’t exciting enough, it also fell on my birthday weekend (since Potter and I share one – humble brag). How amazing is that? I knew I had to wear something really special, so I got this crop top custom made by Jessica of DressicaDresses. You may remember I featured her shop as one of my favorite Supercon vendors. It was absolutely perfect and the evening was even more so! Sure, it was ridiculously hot in the bookstore and the lines at the bar were out of hand (yes, our indie bookstore also has a bar…and a cafe – we even had live music), but it was such a throwback to those good old Potter days of my past and a great way to celebrate another year of living the geek girl lifestyle.
Now, what did you all think of the script?
I’ll be reviewing it at length on the blog soon!

What I Wore: The Tardis + The Enterprise
This past weekend we got to enjoy a date day. Although I adore being a mother and am borderline obsessed with my daughter, I really appreciate the time my hubby and I get alone. We went to one of our favorite haunts, had copious glasses of wine and then headed to see the new Trek film. I can’t say I was a fan of the new installment, but I thoroughly enjoyed our Saturday afternoon.
I don’t get to wear short skirts that much anymore, so I took the chance and wore one that I had tucked away in my closet untouched, and unworn. Sure, I was seeing a Star Trek movie, and I was jaunting around in a TARDIS skirt, but…does it even really matter? Who knew this fantasy-nut would grow to love sci-fi so much? Not me, that’s for sure!
