Weddings, weddings, weddings. Almost 3 years after my own, I still absolutely adore them. Attending them, planning them, reading about them, you name it! And one particular kind of wedding has always intrigued me: the Halloween wedding. Two of my favorite things combined? Yes please! Unfortunately, my family would have probably had my head on a stake if I had decided to have a Halloween wedding of my own (my mom has always harbored an intense dislike of the holiday), so I have to be satisfied with just oogling others’ fabulously spooky wedding days.
I think it’s a talent to be able to have a tasteful yet fun Halloween themed wedding because it’s so easy to go over-the-top and get tacky. That’s why I’m in awe of people that do it right, and these people…they did it right. All brides-to-be (Halloween or not), take note:
I love how this couple was able to subtlety incorporate pumpkins into their decor through place card holders, wedding cake garnish and thank you card photo props. When planning and styling a Halloween themed wedding, it’s so important to focus on the subtleties – otherwise, your event will look more like a festive corner of Party City.
People love their treats, so it’s a great opportunity to play up the theme! I’m really loving the mashed potato ghosts – I think I would squeal for centuries if I saw that on my plate at a reception. This also gives you a great excuse to feature red velvet as your main cake or cupcake flavor because let’s get real: who doesn’t love red velvet? I didn’t even need Halloween to be involved – my own wedding cake was red velvet and it was a hit! Use it to your advantage creepy brides 😉
I really love how demure and elegant these Halloween touches are. They add a little bit of sophistication and glamor to the holiday that I really appreciate. I especially love the beads and bows (and glitter!) decorating the pumpkins. It adds an extra umph to the decor without becoming cheesy or gaudy. I’m also hooked on those gorgeous bridesmaids dresses made of black lace. Perfect amount of vamp while still keepin’ it classy.
Again with the treats (but if you have been to a wedding, you know how quickly these disappear)! Lovely little themed goodies would be a great addition to any bride and groom’s cocktail hour or candy buffet, which I think is almost necessary for a Halloween themed wedding. How can you not trick or treat on Halloween? It’s only fair, after all! 😉
