Happy early Valentines, everyone! Although I’m not the biggest fan of the holiday, I truly love love. I am a sucker for romance and am an idealistic dreamer when it comes to all things that revolve around that 4-letter L word. I spent many a Valentines Day saddened by unrealistic expectations until I realized that the holiday is just about love. Loving yourself. Loving your family. Loving your friends. And, of course, loving your significant other. It’s a time to step back and realize how much love there is in your life, regardless of relationship status, and that makes it an absolutely beautiful day, doesn’t it?
Now onto this week’s list! I get very attached to fictional characters, so it is no surprise that their equally fictitious relationships could also have quite the effect on me. Here are my top 5 OTP’s (One True Pairing);
“Together or not at all.”
1. Rory & Amy {Doctor Who}; By far one of my favorite fictional couples! I don’t like it when relationships are portrayed as being “perfect” on TV or in films. I really appreciate flawed characters, so I felt like their relationship was really well…relatable. I definitely see a lot of me in Amy, and a lot of my husband in Rory, so that may be a big part of why they are my number one (our wifi password is “theponds”). Their entire storyline was genius (plot holes and all) and had a knack for moving me to tears every.single.time. I mean, when was the last time someone pulled apart time for you? Exactly. That’s love, people.
“Everything starts to go dark. I’m slipping into the abyss and then, I see her. A woman. Blonde. Rapturously beautiful. And I know her. We’re together. It’s like we’ve always been and always will be.”
2. Charlie & Claire {LOST}; My absolutely favorite characters on my absolutely favorite show. For those of you fellow LOSTies, there is no way the series finale did not make you feel ALL THE FEELS when it wrapped up their storyline. I loved how from day 1, Charlie pursued Claire and was a constant sourced of positivity during their stay on the island (three words: invisible peanut butter). He was always trying to prove himself and, of course, ended up paying the ultimate sacrifice doing just that.
“And I’ve told you a million times, that I am too old for you, too poor… too dangerous…”
3. Lupin & Tonks {Harry Potter}; I was inconsolable while reading The Deathly Hallows all by myself in my bed when I read that Tonks and Lupin had died in the battle at Hogwarts. I mean, how could you, J.K.???? That hurt right in the gut. Their relationship was never an easy one – with Lupin constantly thinking Tonks deserved better, but honestly, who could be better than Lupin?? Aside from the whole changing into a werewolf thing…he’s quite the catch! I kind of loved that about Lupin though – he always saw Tonks as this beautiful creature he didn’t deserve and treated her as such. I think I just love the moody, brooding type.
“You have to come back because you belong with me.”
4. Peter & Olivia {Fringe}; Sigh. This show was not only amazingly written and intriguing every step of the way, but it managed to hit me in the feels on a constant basis (running theme here?). A big part of that was Walter Bishop, but another was the relationship between Peter Bishop and Olivia Dunham. Oh, how I yearned for them to get together. And then they finally did. And then there were alternate universes. And then there was heartache. And then: sweet, sweet, justice. I can honestly say this one was a roller coaster, but I loved every single second of it. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to fight for a fictional couple before as I’ve wanted to fight for these two.
“Come back and make up a good-bye at least. Lets pretend we had one.”
5. Joel & Clementine {Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind}; This is my favorite movie. I hate to harp on the same themes and ideas, but I love me some flaws, and boy. Did this movie present to us two very flawed characters. I loved the concept of wanting to erase someone that hurt you because we’ve all been there. You’ve had that thought: What if I never met this person? What if I could just erase that moment in time? That’s the question this movie toys with, and ultimately, shows us why every single moment is worth living, no matter how painful. Every person walks into your life for a reason, and to not want those experiences is just to stop wanting to live. I also loved that I could equally relate with both Joel and Clementine. I’ve been that fucked up girl that hurts others, just as I’ve been that emotionally needy girl that yearns for any attention, whether it be positive or negative.
So what are your favorite fictional couples? Do we have some overlap?
I can’t wait to read everyone’s!

I loved Charlie, I didn’t follow lost to the end but I fancies him like mad, his smile is adorable. I need to rewatch this and see how I feel about this ship (based on that gif alone I can definitely see it). Lupin and Tonks! I had so many more feels for them in the books than the film, I felt like the film wrote Tonks off a bit

Amy and Rory were my favorite ship that has ever sailed in the big wide ocean of sinking ships and disappointment. Especially in that episode where Rory said he loved her more and she freaked and told him that was impossible as she was giving him up so he could have his dreams come true. All the feels came from them. Of course, they can never beat Rose and the Doctor’s relationship, Though their ending could be considered happy, I felt that there was so much more that could have been done with the characters that never happened.
