If you have been working during the Coronavirus pandemic whether that is on the front line in healthcare, in senior centers, or in retail and essential services, keeping the world going, well done. It is a tough time for everyone, but throw in a risky and stressful job – on top of looking after children and worrying about health – and it is an incredibly stressful time.
It can be tempting to give your absolute all to your job, especially at the moment, and while the world needs dedicated workers, it is also essential that you take the time to relax in between shifts and remember that you are a person too. Not only will you risk making yourself ill, but you simply won’t be as effective in the workplace if you are burned out. Here, we look at some tips to help you out when work gets a little bit on top of you.
Turn off the cell phone
Did you know that, on average, we check our cell phones a whopping 110 times a day? While it is important that we stay connected to our friends and family that we may not be able to see in person at the moment and keep up to date with news and current events, sometimes it can be overwhelming, especially after a tough day at work. At least once a week, make the effort to turn your cell phone off for the evening, or at the very least, put it out of reach so you are not tempted to mindlessly scroll through it every few minutes.
Spend quality time with your nearest and dearest
It may be with your loved one, the kids, or even your pets, but spend some time snuggling up on the couch together and just enjoying each other’s company. Grab some blankets and cushions and some of your favorite snacks, turn down the lights, and check out Troypoints guide to torrent sites for where to find the best movie to stream or games to play together as a family.
Spend some time outdoors
Perhaps you are looking out of the window and thinking ‘but it’s cold/raining/snowing’ – and?? There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing choices. Grab the rain boots and waterproof coats put on a hat and gloves, and get out there in the great outdoors. Go for a long muddy hike through the woods, a family bike ride, go to the playground and push each other on the swings or play a game of basketball in the back yard. Just a few minutes of fresh air and exercise outside can be amazing for lifting the spirits and giving both your physical and mental health a huge boost. This is particularly important during difficult times like this.
Go to bed
Sometimes, one of the best things that you can do when you have had a tough day at work is to have a shower or a bath and have an early night. You will wake up the next day feeling refreshed, energized, and ready to face whatever the day throws at you.
