Choose a design that sings to your heart!
One of the best things for us self-confessed nerds, geeks, and fangirls about getting a tattoo is that we already have loads of cool ideas about what you want. After all, you already know the fandoms that you adore, and these aren’t likely to change anytime soon, so there is no danger that you will pick a design that you won’t adore forever!
Also, most franchises have symbols or items that are instantly recognizable like the Triforce in Zelda, the Deathly Hallows in Harry Potter, and the Tardis in Dr. Who, something that means you can be sure any kindred spirit will pick up the reference right away!
Do some research on the person doing your tattoo
While choosing the design of your tattoo may be easy, picking where to get it done can be anything but. In fact, some serious research needs to be done here to check on a variety of things such as cost, safety, and most importantly that you like the style of the artist that will be doing the tattoo.
Indeed, even the smaller things matter here, including the type of tattoo transfer paper that the parlor you chose uses. The reason being that for tattoos with a lot of line work, red paper produces a much clearer template and helps to ensure the end result is scrips, clean, and pops for the longest time possible.
Go for something smaller first
Another important piece of advice for anyone considering getting a tattoo is to start small. Yes, I know a full sleeve of nerd references looks awesome, but you don’t want to put yourself or the artist doing your tattoo in a position where you can complete the design.
Of course, you can always choose to have your tattoo completed in several settings. But if you haven’t had any ink before a smaller design is the best way to begin.
Carefully consider where you want your tattoo to be
Last, of all, you need to think carefully about the location of your tattoo on your body. Indeed, there are two important aspects to consider here – visibility and pain.
For instance, some people want to make sure their tattoo is as visible as possible at all times, something that means a location that isn’t covered up much like the hands, neck, or lower leg is best. However, for others’s the situation is reversed, which means body tattoos or upper arms and legs are the best choices.
Additionally, the pain you can expect from the tattoo experience will differ depending on the site you choose. Lucky you can use charts like the one here to work this out beforehand. Something that can be very useful if you want to show your love for a fandom, but have a lower pain threshold.
