If you want to cut a few corners in the home, save some time, and feel the satisfaction of using a handy household hack you are in the right place. The four handy hacks in this post are little-known ways to make your life easier and more convenient. Find out how to peel oranges the right way, microwave food without cold patches, and clean out your blender more easily.
Peeling Oranges
Oranges are an excellent source of vitamin D but unfortunately, they can be very difficult to peel especially when you have to dig your fingers into both ends and break them apart. It’s even worse if you want to eat an orange but have a cut on your finger that can make peeling painful.
Luckily, there is a better way to peel your favorite citrus fruit, whether it is an orange, a clementine, or a tangerine, take a knife and cut off the top and bottom of the fruit; next, make a slice down one side of the orange and unfurl the fruit like an accordion without any juice spray.
Microwaving Food
Microwaving food is very convenient, but often the microwave oven doesn’t heat the food evenly throughout, you end up with parts of your meal warm and parts of it cold. Of course, this is a disappointing and frustrating situation because you have to reheat the meal again and again.
The best way to avoid this situation is to place your food on the plate and create a hole in the center. For example, if you are making spaghetti bolognese arrange the food around the outside of the plat in a circle with a wide space in the middle, this ensures it cooks evenly throughout.
Expiration Dates
Sometimes it can be hard to tell when your lotions and potions go out of date in the bathroom, unlike food items, toiletry items don’t seem to have a use-by date; but in fact, expiration dates exist for these items as well, you simply need to know where to look for them and how to read.
On the back of a pot of moisturizing cream, you might a symbol that says 6M or 12M, these figures usually accompany a symbol of a pot with the lid coming off, this is your expiration date for the cream. 6M stands for six months, and 12M stands for twelve months respectively.
Blender Cleaning
Blenders are a wonderful invention, and they are perfect for making soups in the autumn and smoothies in the summer; but there’s a reason why they are used so infrequently, they are notoriously difficult to clean. Use a neat trick brought to you from Highland Park Housekeeping.
The best way to wash your blender after using it is to fill it up with soap and warm water; don’t sit the jug in the sink to congeal as it only becomes harder to clean; instead, put the jug back on the hub containing the soapy water and push the button. The jug blends the water and cleans it.
