If there is one thing that proves to be stress relief in my life (even at almost 40), it is planning a good outfit. My excitement grows if it is fandom-related, so putting together outfits for cons has always been something I really relish in. Lately I’ve found myself trying my best to find as many pieces as I can that are already in my closet. You see, I don’t go out much any more now as a mama bear, but I continued to buy outfits for awhile as if I did. So I have so many gems that don’t really get to see the light of day already in my closet. It’s been an extra challenge and my wallet has really, really thanked me during a very busy traveling year (what possessed me, I have no idea) where every penny counts.
Captain Marvel
I was just as excited as everyone else for this movie but I never thought that it would have the impact that it did on me when I watched it opening weekend. I don’t know if I’m just extra sensitive now that I am a mother to a toddler girl or if it is just really that impactful, but I can’t say that I walked out of that theater the same.
After reading and listening to others’ experiences, I realized that I wasn’t alone. This movie made the ladies feel strong and empowered in a way that other female led films (like Wonder Woman) didn’t (and I loved Wonder Woman). That montage of her falling down her entire life and then getting back up? Something I didn’t even know existed inside me bubbled up emotionally and made its way out violently. I had to really control myself not to outright sob in public.
Must be that Fall feeling
Ever sit back and realize that things are really good at the moment? I mean, things are always hectic and my life will never be chilled and calm due to family health issues, but recently I have really felt like my routine is solid and things are so good. I think it’s important to reflect and really take in the peace when you feel it because lord knows life can take drastic turns when you least expect it. Right now? I’m real happy. And whenever I feel that, I like to put it out into the universe and appreciate it because I think it’s a pretty special thing, to be happy. Don’t you?
Boohoo: Back to School
You know, this definitely shows my age but I am loving this 90’s trend in fashion these days. The other day, I went shopping and it brought a really big smile to my face to see things I used to lust over as a teenager but clearly could not convince my mom to buy. Hours and hours sifting through the latest Delia’s catalog and circling my favorites, which then led to calculating how much the grand total would be. It was always hundreds and hundreds of dollars (shopaholic since birth). It has been really strange being able to nab stuff off my teen wishlists, but I have to say, it’s been a complete trip to get to wear things from my youth.
I especially love the back to school collection from Boohoo because it looks like it came straight from Cher Horowitz’s closet, and I am so down with that. Like, if you were a 90’s teen and didn’t emulate her, were you even a 90’s girl? I personally wished that I had her revolving closet (and still do to be honest), but looking through this collection was the next best thing. I am beyond obsessed with these overalls, and I’m sorry for all my readers because you are going to see them over and over and over again. Can you imagine them paired with Mickey ears? Ugh, I can’t.
Modcloth Fall Collection
It’s not every day you get to work with one of your favorite brands, and I think the universe sent me a side wink when I got an opportunity to do just that with ModCloth just weeks into launching the blog again.
Their Fall line is absolutely incredible and I loved running around Miami Beach with my amazing friend + photographer, Lissette, to get some ultra fun shots in these rad outfits. I mean – raptor sweater? I’m all in.
