What I Wore: Wizarding goes Retro

I love all the fashions that are emerging from fandom culture. I especially love the fashion lines that are inspired by geeky films, like Fantastic Beasts! Although Hot Topic has released a few great lines, I fell in love with this adorable retro number from Fun.com. I wanted to put together a throwback look to complement the frock, and also hide my mom hair, so bandana wrap it was! I paired it with my favorite cat eye nude sunnies and my new must have lippie stick from Colourpop. I’d love to tell you that I wore this to the beach or to have mid-day cocktails, but here I am just enjoying my backyard on a beautiful day. Mom life, amirite?

It’s only gotten more and more difficult to wriggle in self care these days, but I am trying my absolute best to slap on some makeup and a cute outfit at least once a week. But I have to be completely honest and admit that leggings and long tunic tees have become my best friend. But don’t tell too many people, ok?

Nerdy Must Haves

You didn’t think I had forgotten about this month’s must haves, did you?
Absolutely NOT.

1. Princess Leia leotards; I’ve already expressed my love for The Daily Threads on this blog often enough, but I just can’t stop raving about one of their newest designs: a tribute to one of the most kick ass princesses in the galaxy. I think it is the perfect outfit for your little one to rock while visiting any of the Disney parks or for a Star Wars themed party. I can’t wait to get one for little Lu.

2. Expelliarmus pennant; I cannot love this little pennant banner anymore. Sure, the pennant trend must be on its way out if the Target dollar spot is housing a bunch (wink nudge), but I’ll be damned if I don’t get one of these for some room of my house (I’ll find any excuse). Best part? It’s currently on sale!

3. Death Star heart pin; As everyone’s pin game continues to rage strong, I am working on compiling the most epic collection for my fandom jacket by the time I am visiting SDCC this year. It’s pretty amazing at the moment, but I feel like it could be so much better. That’s why I’m definitely adding this adorable Star Wars themed pin to it soon!

4. Legion on FX; This show totally sideswiped me, but I am completely and utterly obsessed. The styling, the imagery, the direction: everything is so flawless, it’s almost impossible to believe it is real. After seeing so many Xmen ventures tank, it’s really nice to see one done the way it should. Does anyone else already have a huge cosplay list just from the two first episodes?

What I Wore; Loony

Another month, another super fun Geek Girl Brunch theme! This month’s was YA Badass Bitches, and we had such a great time honoring our favorite brave ladies of literature. I went a little off the beaten path and decided to honor Luna Lovegood. She was not afraid to be herself, and illustrated that sometimes the strangest of people make the best of friends. I also have a special connection with her character, and taking home her wand a couple of years ago during one of my last visits to The Wizarding World (find the full story here) solidified that. I knew I had to finally pay her homage and hang up my Gryffindor tie for one afternoon.

Best Shops for Disney Outfits

Now that we are headed to Disney more often and getting immersed in that culture (Luna is full blown obsessed with Mickey), it’s been really fun trying to find unique and awesome outfits for our trips to the parks. I get asked a lot where I have found some of the things either Luna or myself wear, so I figured I would compile a little list of my favorite stores with you all!

I think this is the first shop I stumbled upon that sold “hip” Disney wears. I fell in love with their very 90’s grunge flannels with famous Disney character quotes on the back, and have since seen the design being ripped off in larger chains (*cough* Hot Topic *cough*).

Lost Bros Trading Co

I didn’t discover this shop until the week before we left for Disney, and I was so bummed. Their styles are so incredible! I also smiled a whole lot whenever I saw one of them walk by me at the Magic Kingdom – and boy were there a lot! My personal favorite is the Ariel tee because it includes two of my favorite things: The Little Mermaid and champagne!

What I Wore; Dream Big, Princess

That newfound love of Disney through the eyes of my child has given me a whole new fandom to explore in regards to outfits, and man, am I having fun. I love that you can wave your freak flag high and proud at Disney and no one bats an eyelash. In fact, it is encouraged. Whenever that is the case, I take this privilege and run with it. Case in point: I bought the most ridiculously large and loud Minnie ears and rocked them for the day at Magic Kingdom. I can’t wait to delve deeper into Disney fashion, but for now I can state with 100% certainty that comfy leggings are the way to go when you are visiting the parks with an insanely active toddler.
