WTF BBQ?

26268003-26268004-slarge

In possibly the strangest news ever, it has been reported that James Iha of the Smashing Pumpkins, Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick, Hanson’s Taylor Hanson and Fountains Of Wayne bassist Adam Schlesinger have decided to come together and form some sort of supergroup named…wait for it…Tinted Windows.

I don’t even think I have the proper words to express how WEIRD this situation is. How did these people meet? Apparently Iha and Schlesinger co-own a recording studio, which is where Tinted Windows recorded their debut album, but….I guess what I am trying to say is: Hanson?!?! Really?

However, despite the strange pair-ups, I have to say that I’m a bit intrigued after Entertainment Weekly reported that the band’s sound is “old-school, naive, young, bubblegum power-pop” influenced heavily by the Knack and the Buzzcocks. Hmm, color me curious!

The band will be playing the SXSW festival in Austin, TX next month so if any of you will be attending, please come back with full reports!

I wonder how Billy Corgan feels about this.

Edit: Rolling Stone has now posted their first single, Kind of a Girl, and I have to say it is pretty good. I am somewhat impressed, but then again I’m a sucker for fun power pop. To hear it, go here.

Music is my boyfriend.

iTunes

I’m going to make this very clear: I know my husband is the king of online mixtapes. I know this, but still figured I would try my hand at making mixes that I think you would all enjoy. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?

Just think of it this way: now you can have his&hers mixtapes reminiscent of our wedding favors. Afterall, everything always needs a feminine touch, right? 😉

With my first mixtape, I decided to keep it simple & sweet. No real theme, just a collection of songs that have put a smile on my face lately. I hope they have the same effect on all of you. Let me know if they do.

[Mix Fun Fact:] I just bought floor tickets to see Kings of Leon in May!

The Fall

Valentine’s Day evening, the hubs & I snuggled together on the couch to watch The Fall, a movie I had been aching to see since I saw the beautiful trailer months ago. It was almost like a Dali painting had come to life on the screen. I had heard mixed reviews, but was very pleased that the story was just as great as the visuals. Some may disagree, but I am definitely a sucker for epic fantasy storylines. Click to read more about The Fall

All my lovin’…

Well, as promised, I am back with a recap of my amazing Valentine’s Day.

It actually all started Friday night when I returned home from a much needed Happy Hour with my bestie. As I walked in, I saw a beautiful arrangement of gerbera daisies (which are one of my favorite flowers) and a very appropriate card.

Valentine’s Day

I am your typical Valentine’s Day hater.

Back in my single days, I would bury myself in bed and not want to make eye contact with anyone in the outside world to avoid the flurry of red roses, candy hearts & general vomit-inducing behavior. Later, when I was in a relationship, I took to jumping on a plane and just fleeing the whole state entirely with my boyfriend to avoid the above. And now, married, my husband & I take to just cooking intimate dinners at home & watching one of our Netflix rentals to yet again, avoid the above. I’m sure you get the point. I do not subscribe to Valentine’s Day and all its little gimmicks. You cannot fool me, Hallmark. I am on to you.

However, this year my husband decided to throw a complete curve ball at me and state that he has a surprise for me Saturday night. So surprise, in fact, that I will be blindfolded to our location. And I can’t help but smile. Or obsess.

See, I love surprises a lot, but I drive myself completely insane until I discover what said surprise is. And this one has me stumped. My hints? Here you go:

1. You can eat there, but it’s not a restaurant.

2. It is grouped as one of my many fandoms.

3.Not a lot of people will be at this location on Valentine’s Day.

4. This would be the worst idea with anyone else, but absolutely perfect for me.

What could this be? At first I thought it was a concert or some sort of performance, but I bring my A game to Ticketmaster. I know who is coming and who is not. There is no way that a band I love is coming to town on Saturday and I don’t know about it. Impossible. But what else? What is this elusive surprise?

Although I have a no clue, I can say for certain that I have the best husband. Afterall, he’s managed quite the feat: I am now excited (for the first time in my life) for Valentine’s Day.
