5 Fandom Friday: One Fandom Item Styled Five Different Ways

This Fandom Friday really spoke to my heart being fashion related! As you all know, I love putting together stylish geeky outfits, so I had fun with this one. It was tough to choose just one fandom item, but I finally settled on the fandom crop top. Sure, you may think that a 30-something-year-old should not be rocking crop tops, but I beg to differ. I think there are many ways to style a crop top in age-appropriate ways and I hope this post illustrates that.

There are a lot of great options out there for geeky crop tops and being convention season, these ideas may spark a little outfit inspiration (or two). Although I have many a crop top, I decided to go with my Marvel one because it’s so bright and fun.

What I Wore: Mischief Managed

Who doesn’t want to be a bad ass Gryffindor? I had a lot of fun styling all these outfits during our Wizarding World weekend, but this one was one of my favorites because it seemed like something an actual Hogwarts student would wear on their days off. I loved that I could adorn my military vest with various Potter-themed buttons and pins, which makes it a subtle homage paired with my mischief managed tank. Even our utilitarian annual pass holder lanyard somehow managed to work into the look. It was so fab sharing all my vacation looks with you all – I can’t wait until our next visit!

Nerdvember: Outfit #3

Who else misses the BBC’s Sherlock?
I know I do. Since we have a pretty unbearable wait ahead of us, I try my best to fill the void by watching episodes as much as I can and apparently, wearing Sherlock-themed outfits.  I may have gotten a few strange looks due to my “high functioning sociopath” pin, but it’s all worth it to this fangirl.

What I love the most about putting together these fun geeky outfits for Nerdvember is that it challenges me to not only theme out what I’m wearing (which is so much fun), but also gives me the extra challenge to make it subtle. Not that I don’t like bold fandom statements, but I personally like to bring it down a few notches for daily wear. Mainly because it’s so fun when someone actually gets the reference! Quotes definitely do the trick, but unfortunately, no one I ran into while wearing this outfit made the connection. Boo hiss, Miami!

Convention Must-Haves

Ah, the convention life. It’s a tough one, but someone has got to live it, amiright?
All silliness aside, I love me a good geeky convention. Thankfully, Miami is stepping up to the plate and hosting quite a few in the months to come, but I still find myself eager to travel to check out what the rest of the country has to offer. I’ll be visiting the West Coast starting tomorrow, so if there are any great events I should hit up in LA or San Francisco, definitely let me know!

My next convention will be NYCC, and I absolutely can’t wait to spend it with friends old and new, while checking out what are sure to be some amazing goodies. Since I frequent these events quite a bit, I thought I would compile my top 5 “must haves” while attending a convention;

1. A Mophie iPhone Case; this has been such an incredible life saver for me. The Mophie case will make your phone a little bulkier, but it will guarantee almost an entire day of battery life. It has a built-in charger that you set to do its business once your battery life has been drained and voila! You are back at 80% in no time! They also have some models that will restore you to 100%, but honestly, I haven’t had any problems once I am back at 80. Struggling to find an available power source to charge your phone is absolutely no fun during a convention, not to mention a terrible waste of time, so this is definitely my number one recommendation!

What I Wore: Allons-y

I had heard of Doctor Who for what seemed like ages, but I just never got around to watching it. I think I expected it to be something very different. After watching and becoming slightly obsessed with Sherlock, we decided it was only natural to give Doctor Who a shot next (same writers). I have to admit that I wasn’t instantly hooked, but about mid-way through the 2nd season, it clicked. And it clicked so good. The one word I’d probably use to describe the series as a whole is beautiful. I know it may make you snicker, but it’s all about celebrating humanity and everything that makes us special. How can you not love that?
