5 Fandom Friday: Favorite Fictional Couples I Ship

Happy early Valentines, everyone! Although I’m not the biggest fan of the holiday, I truly love love. I am a sucker for romance and am an idealistic dreamer when it comes to all things that revolve around that 4-letter L word. I spent many a Valentines Day saddened by unrealistic expectations until I realized that the holiday is just about love. Loving yourself. Loving your family. Loving your friends. And, of course, loving your significant other. It’s a time to step back and realize how much love there is in your life, regardless of relationship status, and that makes it an absolutely beautiful day, doesn’t it?

Now onto this week’s list! I get very attached to fictional characters, so it is no surprise that their equally fictitious relationships could also have quite the effect on me. Here are my top 5 OTP’s (One True Pairing);

“Together or not at all.”

1. Rory & Amy {Doctor Who}; By far one of my favorite fictional couples! I don’t like it when relationships are portrayed as being “perfect” on TV or in films. I really appreciate flawed characters, so I felt like their relationship was really well…relatable. I definitely see a lot of me in Amy, and a lot of my husband in Rory, so that may be a big part of why they are my number one (our wifi password is “theponds”). Their entire storyline was genius (plot holes and all) and had a knack for moving me to tears every.single.time. I mean, when was the last time someone pulled apart time for you? Exactly. That’s love, people.

What I Wore: Magical Chic

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I went on a romantical trip with my lovey to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter this past weekend. It was initially going to be Valentine’s Day weekend, but that was until we found it was a long weekend for kiddos: NOPE! We were graced with amazing weather (well, until our last day) and small crowds, making the parks a complete joy to maneuver. We did some serious shopping (look out for my next outfit posts), and just enjoyed each other…and the geekiness all around us. There’s just something geniunely magical about this place. After 4 consecutive days in the parks, I just didn’t want to leave. Now that we have annual passes, it looks like I won’t have to leave for long! Until next month!

With that said, I wanted to make sure I was comfy but still looking the part. This is where my love of leggings begins. They are just so easy, light and versatile. Just make sure to follow one tip: always make sure you are wearing a tunic top. At the end of the day, leggings are NOT pants. Please don’t wear them as such.

Diagon Alley Visit

I hope all of you survived the Mercury Retrograde unscathed. I can’t necessarily say I did, but thankfully I closed it out with a visit to Diagon Alley in Orlando! I had been ridiculously excited to see what they had done with the expansion, and I was not disappointed. The new park is perfection. The best part is, I’m pretty sure we only touched on all the amazing nooks and crannies of the place. I can’t wait to go again and see everything else we missed!

The butterbeer ice cream was probably the only disappointment. Granted, I was downing a frozen butterbeer right before I tasted it, so I don’t know if the two flavors competed with each other, but it just tasted like vanilla ice cream topped with caramel. Pretty bland. Otherwise, everything was on point. Knockturn Alley was a definite highlight of mine. I always mentioned that the deatheaters presence was not made known when we only had Hogsmeade, so I’m really really happy they brought a little darkness to the park. Without it, there would be no Potter.

I also really liked visiting Ollivanders. I feel like their wand selection and quality improved (especially with the new addition of interactive wands). It was a pretty magical experience. We all ended up taking home wands, but it was such a tough decision for all of us. I finally settled on Luna, which brought us all to thinking who we really are in the Potter universe in comparison to who we’d like to be. As much as I admire Hermione and her intelligence, quick wit and independence, I know I am 100% Luna. Quirky, weird, fiercely loyal and loving.

And this is what I wore!

Layer tank; Marshalls
Shorts; Old Navy
Socks; Hot Topic {eBay}

Fandom Leggings

Leggings. I immediately think of Daria’s obnoxious sister, Quinn.
You just heard her voice in your head, didn’t you?

I had been on the fence about leggings for quite some time. Probably because I see people mistaking them for PANTS. Pants they are not, my friends. They are meant to be worn with an over-sized tunic top or any top that at least covers your crotch and the majority of your backside. If not, I (and everyone else) sees more than they signed up for at any given moment (especially when you bend over – yikes).

With that said, when worn appropriately, I have grown to love them. They are comfy and easy to wear, plus the fandom world has taken to creating all sorts of character and story driven leggings. This means more room in your luggage when packing for conventions, as you can just roll them up into a tiny little log of goodness. However, their price tag has always made me think twice. They usually run between $60-100 and I just couldn’t justify paying that for a pair of leggings I would just wear to specialty events.

But low and behold! I have discovered this fantastic Etsy shop that I have decided to share with all of you, velvetcoc. Unfortunate name aside, they sell amazing fandom leggings for $18 and are currently holding a 2-4-1 sale!!! The seller is located in China, so you will have to wait for your goodies with bated breath, but honestly, it only took 2 weeks for my pair to arrive. Not too shabby! Want to know what I’m picking up next? See my favorites below:

I’m crossing all body parts that she’ll add Doctor Who inspired leggings next!

Lovable Friday!

1. I’ve always been super mesmerized by the zodiac. My mother had this incredible 70’s era book when I was growing up that physically described each sign (among other things). I was legit obsessed with it. I’m pretty sure I carried it with me everywhere. When I was older, I had my astrological chart read, and although the majority of it was a big flop, I still live for horoscopes. That’s why I immediately was drawn to these beautiful zodiac constellation necklaces from Etsy seller, Iaonato. The one featured above is Leo’s, but of course she has all other signs available – I just decided to share the best one (can you tell which sign is mine?).

2. To quote the newest Sherlock series 3 teaser trailer, “OH MY GOD.” That was basically my reaction when I saw these amazing Sherlock-inspired leggings from Gold Bubble Clothing. I’m really trying to justify a reason to spend $70 on ridiculously loud leggings that I will probably only wear to conventions/geeky events, but I’m coming up short. I’ll probably cave by the time this blog is published though. I’m weak after all.

3. Continuing on the fandom tip, OMGz today’s Tee Fury is just all sorts of perfection. Although I’m late to the party (as usual), the hubs and I started watching the reboot of Doctor Who (starting with the 9th doctor) and I am so unbelievably hooked. More on that later (yeah, it deserves its own dedicated post) though – back to this amazing crossover tee! The Girl in the Fireplace is my favorite episode (so far) of Doctor Who, so I was thrilled to see it mashed up with Harry Potter by none other than the amazing Karen Hallion. This was a no brainer: take my money please and thank you. ps; Can you imagine what a great companion Hermione would make??

4. Talking about those that instantly steal your money, let’s talk about Marc Jacobs continuing his amazing Boston Terrier series. Although I am not complaining (it warms my little heart), my wallet is starting to grumble a bit. Cue this ADORABLE watch. At $267 it’s a stretch (I mean, REALLY?), so I am hoping that someone will rip off the design soon enough. Is that terrible? Oh well.

5. My relationship with Tumblr is touch and go. Sometimes I would flood my blog with 50 posts in a row, sometimes I wouldn’t post for 8 months at a time. I’m back on this bandwagon now (follow me here) and have become immersed in the fangirl explosion that is tumbling (I can use it as a verb, right?). More than likely if you catch me laughing at my computer screen maniacally, I’m on Tumblr compiling more fandom gifs to my already ridiculously large collection. #sorryimnotsorry

Special mention; Benedict Cumberbatch and his ridiculously sexy voice reads lyrics to R. Kelly’s “Genius.”
