What I Wore: Cursed Child

Processed with VSCO with e1 preset

Like every other good little Potterhead, I went to the midnight release party of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child script at my local independent bookstore. As if attending another midnight release party after nearly 9 years wasn’t exciting enough, it also fell on my birthday weekend (since Potter and I share one – humble brag). How amazing is that? I knew I had to wear something really special, so I got this crop top custom made by Jessica of DressicaDresses. You may remember I featured her shop as one of my favorite Supercon vendors. It was absolutely perfect and the evening was even more so! Sure, it was ridiculously hot in the bookstore and the lines at the bar were out of hand (yes, our indie bookstore also has a bar…and a cafe – we even had live music), but it was such a throwback to those good old Potter days of my past and a great way to celebrate another year of living the geek girl lifestyle.

Now, what did you all think of the script?
I’ll be reviewing it at length on the blog soon!

What I Wore: The Tardis + The Enterprise

Processed with VSCO with e1 preset

This past weekend we got to enjoy a date day. Although I adore being a mother and am borderline obsessed with my daughter, I really appreciate the time my hubby and I get alone. We went to one of our favorite haunts, had copious glasses of wine and then headed to see the new Trek film. I can’t say I was a fan of the new installment, but I thoroughly enjoyed our Saturday afternoon.

I don’t get to wear short skirts that much anymore, so I took the chance and wore one that I had tucked away in my closet untouched, and unworn. Sure, I was seeing a Star Trek movie, and I was jaunting around in a TARDIS skirt, but…does it even really matter? Who knew this fantasy-nut would grow to love sci-fi so much? Not me, that’s for sure!

Florida Supercon 2016 Outfits

A couple of weeks ago, Miami welcomed Florida Supercon to Miami Beach during 4th of July weekend. I hadn’t been to a con in a year (!!!), so it was nice to be back in my element socializing with fellow geeks! I also had the opportunity to sit on my first panel that I organized myself with some ladies I really admire, which can now be crossed off the bucket list. All in all, it was a great weekend and look out for more posts detailing my experience coming up next week on the blog!

For now, check out the outfits I put together for each day I attended the con:

Friday was my day to wander the Con all by my lonesome, check out the exhibit floor and get my first convention-based tattoo! I knew I wanted to be comfortable, but also show my geek side. As usual, my immediate go-to was a Jordan Dene tee, because what else is there?? I threw on my favorite of my extensive collection and made it chic by adding my favorite peter pan collar paired with fun pins.

What I Wore: Princess Peach

IMG_7963

I promise my next style post will be something other than what I put together for a Geek Girl Brunch event. Promise.

But until then, I did put together a pretty easy casual cosplay for our most recent Videogame themed brunch. I grew up a Nintendo kid, and that never really changed as I became an adult. My husband (then boyfriend) bought me a GameCube to take with me to grad school when I moved away to Pensacola, and it literally became my best friend. I felt really isolated when I moved to a new city, and spent most of my nights either studying, typing away at another emo Livejournal post, binge watching TV shows, reading Harry Potter or playing games on my GameCube with the volume on mute and my music of choice blaring (it was usually 30 Seconds to Mars at that time). When we moved in together, we were one of those freaks that stood in line forever and bum rushed a Toy R Us to get our hands on a Wii console. We still have it and I refuse to get rid of it. Nintendo has been with me always, and I’m pretty sure that’s never going to change. That’s why I decided I had to be one of my beloved Mario Kart characters. I always played either as Princess Peach, Luigi or Toad, so I chose the Princess (naturally). 😉

What I Wore: Girls Nite

IMG_7844

When you and your bestie became moms months apart, you have even more built in support. We are constantly texting each other back and forth and asking for advice. Sometimes, we just want to vent. And sometimes, we just want to dance. And that’s exactly what we did last week when we heard She Wants Revenge was playing a show in South Florida. We used to dance around like maniacs to the band during our indie kid club days, so it was such a perfect way to reminisce about our wild, childless days.

I’m pretty sure everything hurt as I was driving home and I was so tired, but it was amazing to be out drinking beers and dancing to good music after all this time. Fellow moms: make sure you do you as often as possible!

With that said, I knew I had to dress comfortably and wear my best dancing shoes, and this stellar droid dress I found at Forever 21 of all places was the winner! It’s form fitted and short, but so unbelievably comfortable. It hugs me in all the right places and actually makes me confident about my post-baby body, which is still under-construction. And it’s high neck is perfect for rocking a nice high updo, which is basically all I’ve been doing since I’m completely over my hair.
